Why Kaitlynn Carter Is Done Dating in the Public Eye After Her Split From Miley Cyrus
When Miley Cyrus and Kaitlynn Carter ended their close to two-month romance back in September 2019, their split was heavily covered by almost every media outlet.
Though the hype surrounding their breakup eventually died down, the experience had a lasting effect on Carter. So much so that she now prefers to keep her relationships out of the public eye.
A recap of Kaitlynn Carter and Miley Cyrus’ whirlwind romance
While Cyrus was in the midst of divorcing her husband of eight months, Liam Hemsworth, she struck up a romance with Carter, who had recently called it quits from her husband, Brody Jenner.
Carter and Cyrus were first spotted together in Italy on August 9, 2019, along with the singer’s sister, Brandi.
At first, the ladies appeared to be just two friends partying it up on a yacht in the beautiful country. However, the pair soon threw everyone in a loop when they were photographed kissing during that same vacation.
After that, the singer and The Hills: New Beginnings star were spotted together regularly, with Carter even accompanying Cyrus to the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards.
In early September, news outlets reported that the celebs were officially living together, seemingly confirming that their relationship was getting pretty serious.
Unfortunately, Cyrus and Carter’s romance didn’t last, and they split after just six weeks of dating. At the time, insiders revealed that though the pair were going their separate ways, they still remained friends.
Both Miley Cyrus and Kaitlynn Carter have since moved on
Following their short-lived romance, Cyrus went on to find love with her current boyfriend, Cody Simpson, who she started dating in early October — just a few weeks after splitting from Carter.
As for The Hills: New Beginnings star, she too has found love with someone new, but we shouldn’t hold our breath on her revealing who it is anytime soon.
While speaking with Nick Viall during a brand new episode of his The Viall Files podcast, Carter revealed that though she’s seeing someone, she plans to keep the details of their relationship to herself.
“With the person that I’ve been seeing recently, I’m trying to take it really slow and make sure that everything is in place,” she told Viall. “We’re not boyfriend-girlfriend.”
Carter shared that her decision to keep her personal life private came about after her very public breakup from the “Slide Away” singer.
“What I’ve really realized is now with dating, I’m super private about it,” she said. “Since last fall, once that whole situation [with Miley] came to a wrap, I was like, ‘That’s the last time I’m doing a public thing.'”
According to Carter, she and Cyrus initially planned to keep their romance under wraps, but things ended up not working out like they’d hoped.
“We actually did work pretty hard to keep it as private as we could, but it is what it is,” she continued. “It’s so hard to go through a breakup in the public eye, too… It’s so rough. But there’s also a lot to be gained and learned from that.”
It sounds like both Carter and Cyrus are continuing to live their best lives by following their own rules.
