Why Kate Middleton Felt Threatened By Another Woman During Her Breakup With Prince William
Today Prince William and Kate Middleton are living what looks to be a real-life fairytale but like many couples, they’ve experienced some bumps in the road and even split up for a bit before deciding to say “I do.”
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were married at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011, and now have three adorable children but during their brief breakup, Middleton felt threatened by another woman.
Here’s more on who that was, plus why yet another woman and William’s behavior “humiliated” the duchess and almost kept them apart for good.
The woman Middleton felt threatened by
While many people know William and Middleton broke up in 2007, some aren’t aware that they also split in 2004 during their last year together at St. Andrews University.
In the book titled William and Harry, royal biographer Kate Nicholl wrote about their “trial separation” and how the future duchess was questioning their relationship because of William’s friendship with another woman named Anna Sloan. The prince was already planning an all-boys trip to Greece, which Middleton wasn’t thrilled about, when Sloan invited him on a getaway.
“Anna invited William and a group of friends to Texas for a holiday before he went to Greece, it hurt Kate deeply. She suspected William might have feelings for the 22-year-old heiress,” Nicholl wrote.
However, Nicholl said that Middleton didn’t need to feel threatened at all because Sloan did not have romantic feelings for William and nothing ever happened between them.
“Anna was not the least bit romantically interested in William, and the friendship was never anything more than just that,” the biographer noted.
The American heiress went on to marry a man named Eddie Smith and even attended William and Kate’s royal wedding.
Did another woman almost kept them apart?
Nicholl touched on the couple’s second split as well and wrote that during that time the prince developed a crush on another heiress named Isabella Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe. Nicholl revealed that she wasn’t someone Middleton had to worry about because she was not interested in the future king either.
“While Kate was girl-next-door pretty, Isabella boasted cover-girl looks, a title and a stately pile to boot,” Nicholl wrote. “Sadly for William, she had no aspirations to date a prince and despite his amorous advances declared that she was not interested.”
Isabella is now married to Sam Branson, the son of Virgin business tycoon Richard Branson. The pair also attended William and Middleton’s nuptials.
Middleton was ‘humiliated’ by William’s behavior
Another author, Jessica Jayne, also wrote about the 2007 breakup.
In her book, The Duchess of Cambridge: How Kate Middleton Became A Future Queen, Jayne claimed that Middleton was very upset by her future husband’s behavior and his constant partying so much so that she was having doubts about their relationship.
Jayne added that Middleton had enough when she found out he was going clubbing instead of seeing her and they split following the release of a photo showing the prince posing with two other ladies. “Kate was further humiliated when a photo of William with two girls was published in tabloids,” Jayne wrote.
The pair got back together after William changed his partying ways and the rest is history.
