Why Loyal ‘Worst Cooks in America’ Viewers Are Speculating 1 of the Hosts Might Be Pregnant
As far as entertainment gigs on the Food Network go, landing a coveted spot as a reality TV game show host is a pretty sweet one. The personality and skills required for the position largely depends on the genre and tone of the game itself. Fans can have some shockingly strong opinions about these hosts over time, and some have gone down in history as the most hated because of their on-screen personas.
Wild and wacky games shows require a larger-than-life comedic personality and serious trivia ones require a button-downed, no-nonsense tone, which means there’s a whole range of expected host behavior. One thing is certain, though, if you’re hosting a food-related game show, you’re going to be expected to sample the dishes — no matter how weird they might be.
That’s what has led sharp-eyed viewers to speculate that one of the hosts of Worst Cooks in America might be pregnant.
Food game shows are very popular
It wasn’t that long ago that the concept of a game show based around cooking would have seemed bizarre — and, frankly, pretty boring. Thanks in large part to The Food Network, however, that changed. Writing for The Atlantic, Sonali Kohli and Quartz found that there was a dramatic increase in the number of competition shows airing on the popular network between 2005 and 2014 (when their article was published).
In the time since, that number has only grown, and streaming platforms like Netflix have aimed to capture a piece of the coveted cooking show competition market.
The shows offer a wide range of styles. Some are highly competitive and focus on upping the tension for viewers. As Kohli and Quartz explain, many of The Food Network’s most popular shows focus specifically on these high-pressure situations: “Every element is designed to heighten the stress and lead to more exciting and suspenseful viewing.”
Some shows, however, take a more comedic approach. The rise of shows like Nailed It! — which focuses more on the light-hearted failures in the kitchen — provides a different pace and style for the genre.
‘Worst Cooks in America’ has a comedic angle
Worst Cooks in America was definitely one of the early series to take this comedic approach to the food competition genre. The show premiered in 2010 with the premise that seasoned professional chefs would judge the dishes of the self-proclaimed “worst” cooks across the country.
By showcasing contestants without professional training or even much luck in the kitchen, the show highlights mishaps more than skill.
The hosts, however, really do have a respectable amount of recognition for their own cooking skills. Anne Burrell, Tyler Florence, Bobby Flay, Rachael Ray, and Robert Irvine have all appeared on the show alongside the fumbling contestants.
Is a host on the show secretly pregnant?
Worst Cooks in America is currently on its 20th season, and viewers are following along with hosts Anne Burrell and Alex Guarnaschelli. Burrell is a seasoned chef who has an impressive resume that includes work in some incredibly upscale and prestigious restaurants.
Guarnaschelli has become a staple on The Food Network, having appeared on several of the network’s most popular series. Together, these women bring comedy, talent, and entertainment to the show.
Eagle-eyed fans have made a keen observation about the pair, however. “Anne doesn’t taste most of the food. Alex does,” one Reddit commenter wrote. Several other people jumped in on the conversation to note that they had observed the same thing: “I actually came here to see if anyone knew why Anne wasn’t tasting food.”
“All this week they would have been tasting raw or seared fish on Anne’s team with the sushi and bento box. When you’re pregnant you aren’t supposed to eat raw fish if I remember correctly? And I remember reading on here a while ago that Anne is dating a guy now? Probably just a fun ‘what if’ so anyone please correct me if I got something wrong!” one commenter speculated.
Others jumped in to add to this fan theory by talking about her recent engagement and speculating about whether her age would rule out a potential pregnancy.
