Why ‘Married at First Sight’ Fans Were Shocked By Brett’s Family
Married at First Sight star Brett made a less-than-stellar debut on the show. His behavior at the bachelor party threw his intentions into question not just with Olivia, but with fans as well. What’s more, Brett himself revealed that he’s got something of a prolific dating history. And after seeing how Brett’s family behaved on the show, fans are less sure than ever about the would-be husband.
Fans were turned off by Brett’s behavior
Married at First Sight fans aren’t sure if the Lifetime experts hit the nail on the head with Brett and Olivia. Olivia seems ready to settle into a caring, long-term relationship. Meanwhile, Brett is flirting with other women at the bachelor party.
Fans were shocked when Brett put the moves on Kristin, another contestant on the show during the bachelor party. To make matters worse, Brett seemed to brag about his numerous past girlfriends.
While chatting with producers, he revealed that he was cheated on in a past relationship. Afterwards, he went on to date a total of 45 women. Some rebound. It left many fans wondering if he ever got over his last relationship, and if he was truly ready to settle down.
Brett said of Olivia, “She’d be crazy if she’s not attracted to me.” If nothing else, it’s clear that Brett has plenty of self-confidence.
When it comes to what he’s looking for in a relationship, the Married at First Sight star told InTouch, “I’m an active person, so It was always important that I be matched with someone that can keep up with that lifestyle. I really enjoy playful banter and need to be with someone with a similar sense of humor.”
Olivia isn’t sure what to think
While Brett seems convinced that he’s going to knock Olivia out of the park with his looks and charisma, Olivia didn’t seem so sure about his intentions.
Olivia sat down to watch the first episode of Married at First Sight Season 11, and then chatted with Us Weekly about it. Olivia pointed out that even Brett’s family members seemed shocked that he’d decided to participate in the show.
She told Us Weekly, “As for Brett, his dad did not seem thrilled and his siblings didn’t have much to say — the looks on their faces say it all. They all seemed shocked that he would even consider getting married given his dating history. Brett and his statistics … I’m excited to see what he has planned….”
She added, “I like that Brett chose simple black and white, but I have to admit that watching this segment was tough. It is not cool to hear about all of his past dates and canceling of dates. It makes me feel like he maybe isn’t ready to settle down.
‘Married at First Sight’ fans react to Brett’s family
Meanwhile, Married at First Sight fans, who already aren’t on board with Brett, aren’t so sure how to feel about Brett’s family.
One Reddit user pointed out that Brett’s family seemed unnecessarily sarcastic. They wrote, “I get that he’s an awkward dude acting like a player to overcompensate for his insecurities. What gets me is his family. They wrote a pretty rough intro for him at the ceremony. Sarcastic? Yes, but still didn’t hit me as an appropriate time for it. But, is it because they all can’t stand Brett? Is he the designated ‘family d*****bag’? Or is that just how they are, like universally… to everyone? Thoughts!?”
Another fan of the show replied, “I feel like Brett and his brothers must have been neglected or did not come from a loving home as children or something because their use of sarcasm is SO excessive it feels like a defense mechanism. Also the fact that his parents didn’t show up because they “don’t like being on camera” was a bit strange to me.”
“Brett is messed up. He’s obviously been bullied and picked on by his family his entire life for the unforgivable sin of being the youngest. He’s developed a devil-may-care attitude to compensate, and it looks as if this marriage is going to be a train wreck. Felt so sorry for his wife. She seems so deserving of better; I like her a lot,” opined another Redditor.
