Why Meghan Markle’s Dad Is Threatening to Talk to the Press Again
It’s no secret that Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and her dad, Thomas Markle, have a bit of a rocky relationship. The father and daughter have been estranged for years. However, their strained relationship hasn’t stopped Markle from speaking to the press repeatedly about the Duchess of Sussex.
Recently, Markle spoke about Meghan and her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey while appearing on Good Morning Britain, where he threatened to continue talking to the media about her and Prince Harry.
So, why is Thomas Markle now threatening to talk to the press again? If you’re a loyal supporter of the royal couple, Markle’s reasoning for not keeping his mouth shut will make you furious.
Thomas Markle recently spoke to ‘Good Morning Britain’ about Meghan Markle
It was only a matter of time before Thomas Markle commented on the Meghan’s explosive Oprah interview.
Just two days after the tell-all interview, during which Meghan and Prince Harry opened up about their rift with the royal family, Markle appeared on Good Morning Britain to discuss what he thought about his daughter’s remarks.
During the interview, Markle made some shocking comments, one being that Meghan — who revealed she contemplated suicide while working as a senior member of the royal family — was partly at fault for her mental health struggles because she “ghosted” her own family.
“I love my daughter very much,” he said. “Had I known she was having psychological problems, I would’ve been there for her.”
Markle continued, “The biggest problem here is she’s pretty much ghosted all of her family, on her mother’s side and my side. So she really had no one to reach out to. She would’ve had us if she’d kept us.”
Thomas Markle admits he only talks to the press to get Meghan Markle’s attention
While speaking with Good Morning Britain, Markle revealed that Meghan’s interview was the first time he’d heard her speak in four years.
“I’m very disappointed about it,” he expressed. “Bottom line is I’ve never heard back from Harry and Meghan in any way, shape or form.”
Since he no longer speaks to Meghan, Markle admitted that he talks to the press as a way to get the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s attention. By speaking with Good Morning Britain, Markle hopes the couple will pick up the phone and call him one day.
However, if that doesn’t happen in a month’s time, Markle threatened to continue speaking to the media.
“Because I don’t hear from them, I do a story with the press. If I don’t hear from them in 30 days, I’ll do another one,” he says. “I would love to hear from them. When they decide to talk to me, I’ll stop talking to the press.”
Thomas Markle wishes he hadn’t betrayed Meghan Markle by staging paparazzi photos
During her interview with Winfrey, Meghan opened up about the drama surrounding her father staging paparazzi photos a few days before her and Prince Harry’s wedding in May 2018.
According to the Duchess of Sussex, she felt betrayed by her father and even confronted him about his actions over the phone.
“I said, ‘I just need you to tell me, and if you tell me the truth, we can help,’ and he wasn’t able to do that,” Meghan explained.
While speaking with Good Morning Britain, Markle explained why he staged the paparazzi photos, sharing that he did it because he felt unprotected by the royals.
“My oldest daughter [Samantha Markle] was contacted by a man named Jeff Rayner who was a photographer, who said, ‘If you can convince your dad, we can make him look good,'” Thomas shared, explaining that the press had been making him seem like an alcoholic for buying beer for “guys at the guard gate.”
Looking back, Markle now wishes he hadn’t done that to Meghan and apologized to her for his actions during the interview.
“I’d like to say sorry for what I’ve done but this was two years ago,” he added. “I’ve tried to make up for it. But these stories in the paper are because I haven’t heard from you.”
