Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex have tried to move away from the spotlight this year. After stepping down from their positions as working royals, they have been trying to live and raise their son Archie as normally as possible. The birth of Archie was relatively public as Meghan and Harry still had to follow royal protocols. Now that they are not working for the public, they can keep any pregnancy news as secret as they want.

Meghan Markle’s first pregnancy

Fans of the royal family had been waiting for Meghan to get pregnant since she and Harry got married. When they finally announced that they had conceived, the public became obsessed with Meghan’s pregnancy and scrutinized her every move. In an effort to keep things private, Meghan and Harry decided not to take pictures after the birth on the steps of the hospital like others in the royal family had for decades. They also did not immediately notify the press once Meghan had gone into labor.

Meghan’s miscarriage

In a moment of vulnerability, Meghan recently revealed that she suffered a miscarriage earlier this year.

“I dropped to the floor,” she wrote in a piece for The New York Times, “[I] sensed that something was not right. I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second.”

She and Harry rushed to the hospital to see what had happened. After receiving the news, Meghan remembered “[trying] to imagine how [they’d] heal.”

“Losing a child means carrying an almost unbearable grief, experienced by many but talked about by few,” she said.

The incident made her think of how we need to remove the “taboo” in talking about miscarriages.

“Some have bravely shared their stories; they have opened the door, knowing that when one person speaks truth, it gives license for all of us to do the same,” she wrote. “We have learned that when people ask how any of us are doing, and when they really listen to the answer, with an open heart and mind, the load of grief often becomes lighter — for all of us. In being invited to share our pain, together we take the first steps toward healing.”

Meghan and Harry probably won’t tell fans when they are pregnant

Given that Meghan didn’t tell anyone about her second pregnancy until she spoke about the miscarriage, she and Harry probably won’t notify the public when they get pregnant again.

“With Archie, they had a lot of pressure to share the news with the public,” a source close to Meghan told HollywoodLife. “Now that they’re private citizens, they can keep their lives totally to themselves if they want. A lot of people think it’s likely that they’ll follow the trend of hiding her pregnancy until after the baby is born — just for their own peace of mind.”

The two have been leading as secret of a life as the paparazzi have allowed so it’s unlikely that they would bring any more attention on themselves by announcing a pregnancy.

“She and Harry are both extremely private and they will want to guard their privacy that much more if she is pregnant, especially with what she went through during her first pregnancy,” the source said. “She had a terrible amount of stress the first time, so it’s understandable as to why they’d want to keep it a secret for as long as possible if she is pregnant.”
