Why Rihanna Doesn’t Want a Gender Reveal Party
Superstar Rihanna is currently in the third trimester of her pregnancy. The 34-year-old is expecting her first child with boyfriend A$AP Rocky. The fashionable duo has not shared the sex of their baby publically, and Rihanna has no plans of hosting a gender reveal party anytime soon. She’s also not down for a traditional baby shower.

In an honest and at times, hilarious, Vogue interview, Rihanna talked about all things pregnancy, including baby showers and gender reveal parties. At typical gender reveal parties, expectant parents cut into a cake, break a pinata, or some other form of celebration to reveal the sex of their baby.
The parties started popping up in the 2000s and have become a conventional part of pre-baby celebrations. Rihanna is far from traditional, so it’s no surprise when asked about a gender reveal party, she revealed that they would not be having one.
Although, she did feel pressure and wondered if it was ok not to have a gender reveal party. “I asked my doctor: Is something wrong with me for not wanting this? Because people keep asking me. Am I a bad mom?”
She continued, “When we’re ready to tell the world, we’ll just tell them.”
Rihanna wants ‘everyone to be plastered’ at her baby shower
Not surprisingly, Rihanna also shared she’s not a fan of traditional baby showers. She’d prefer a fun co-ed party to a proper brunch.
“No brunch, no blush tones, and no animal-shaped nothing,” she said. Rihanna was quick to share it’s just not her thing, “I mean, it’s lit for a lot of people, it’s just not right for me.”
Instead, she said, “Personally, I want a party. I want everyone to be plastered and crawling out. And it’s got to be co-ed!” Rihanna continued, “Don’t put me in no wicker chair somewhere with gifts at my feet where everyone is staring at me.”
The expectant mother says she hasn’t bought one item of baby clothing, ‘I’m behind on everything’
Many fans would expect fashionista Rihanna to have a closet full of designer clothes ready for her little one. As of now, she only has a bathrobe.
“I’m so behind on everything,” she said. “I haven’t bought anything yet.” Although she has planned trips to Bonpoint and Baby Dior, the one item she does have is a mini bathrobe a hotel in Paris gifted her. “It’s legit the tiniest, cutest robe I have ever seen in my whole life.”
As Rihanna has single-handedly redefined pregnancy fashion, the expectations for her baby could be a little too high. However, the singer is hoping her child shares its parents’ love of fashion. When asked, what if the child isn’t into fashion at all? She responded, “Don’t say that! You just broke my heart!” while laughing hysterically.
While Rihanna’s due date has yet to be confirmed, fans speculate it’s sometime in May. People magazine reported A$AP Rocky recently purchased a charm bracelet for Rihanna with an emerald love locket as the last charm. Emerald is the birthstone for May.
