Sometimes, the best music comes from the toughest times. For example, Sabrina Carpenter’s Emails I Can’t Send was inspired by some of the singer’s personal difficulties. She said she had a greater understanding of life after suffering. Interestingly, two of Carpenter’s most famous songs were from that album.

Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Emails I Can’t Send’ is about being in your 20s

Every great artist has a breakout album. Often, these records come early in a singer’s career. Carpenter, on the other hand, broke through with her fifth album, Emails I Can’t Send. The record balances pure pop sounds with the sense of humor that has made Carpenter stand apart from her contemporaries. Overnight, the record seemed to make her one of the “it girls” of popular music, and critics appreciated her artistry.

During a 2023 interview with Glamour, the former Disney star explained why she wrote Emails I Can’t Send. “I was in a bad stage!” the “Please Please Please” singer replied. “I feel like your whole life, you hear people talk about your 20s and how rough they are, and you always question it like, ‘Why? It seems like not that bad.'”

Carpenter said she understood why living through your 20s is hard. “And then you get there, and you’re like, ‘Oh, this is what they were talking about,'” she added. “Everything’s happening for the first time, meaning all the lows feel even lower, and the highs feel even higher. But it’s all happening at such an accelerated speed.”

Sabrina Carpenter wanted the album to be a snapshot

The “Espresso” singer said she was taking a metaphorical snapshot when she penned Emails I Can’t Send. “So the album, for me, was really a time capsule of a special time in my life when I dealt with many things for the first time,” she said. “I feel like I came out of that with a much greater perspective, and all these songs are based on real nights or experiences and reflecting and foreshadowing.

“There was a lot in between,” she continued. “So I think that is what’s really special about it. It just feels like it encapsulated a lot of really special moments in my life.” One might not expect this sort of openness from a former Disney star, but Carpenter’s career is full of welcome surprises.””There was a lot in between,” she continued. “So I think that is what’s really special about it. ‘Emails I Can’t Send’ produced 2 modern classics

Emails I Can’t Send reached No. 23 on the Billboard 200 and stayed on the chart for 37 weeks. It’s the biggest album of Carpenter’s career thus far. Perhaps she will finally hit the top 20 with her highly anticipated upcoming release, Short n’ Sweet. Considering her talent, she certainly deserves it!

Emails I Can’t Send produced six singles: “Skinny Dipping,” “Fast Times,” Vicious,” “Because I Like a Boy,” “Nonsense,” and “Feather.” Only the latter two songs hit the Billboard Hot 100. “Nonsense” reached No. 56 on the Billboard Hot 100 and remained on the chart for 19 weeks. “Feather” was even more popular, peaking at No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spending 27 weeks on the chart. To date, “Feather” charted longer on the Billboard Hot 100 than any of the singer’s other songs.

Carpenter went through some struggles but they resulted in a great pop album.
