Why Sandra Bullock Said She’s Glad She and Keanu Reeves Never Dated
Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves never dated and, although they’ve both confessed they had crushes on one another, Bullock said she’s glad they didn’t act on their romantic feelings. According to Bullock, she’s become “more in awe” of Reeves over the years and isn’t sure she’d feel the same way if they had dated and broken up.
Sandra Bullock shared her perspective on not dating Keanu Reeves
In a Nov. 22 Esquire feature about Reeves, Bullock weighed in on their friendly relationship over the years, which began when they starred in Speed.
At one point she was asked if they ever dated. “Nope,” she answered, adding, “But who knows?”
According to Bullock, it’s better that they didn’t get together because the possibility of dating and breaking up might have changed her view about Reeves.
“Keanu’s a guy who, I feel like, is friends with every woman he’s ever dated,” she explained. “I don’t think there’s anyone who has something horrible to say about him. So maybe we could have survived. I don’t know.”
Bullock continued, “But we didn’t have to survive anything. We just get to grow up together on parallel roads and tip our hats and meet for a dinner and try to work together.”
Bullock shared how their experience on those “parallel roads” has further deepened her respect for the actor. “And the longer time goes on, the more in awe I am of the human being,” she explained. “Would I have been able to say that if he had dumped me and made me angry? Probably not.”
Bullock revealed she had a crush on Reeves
Bullock and Reeves’ on-screen chemistry was next level in Speed and it was just as crackling in real life. They both admitted later that they had crushes on each other while filming the blockbuster movie, but never acted on their feelings.
During a 2018 interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Bullock revealed her feelings for Reeves. “I think about how sweet Keanu Reeves was and how handsome he was,” she said about working with him on Speed. “It was hard. It was really hard for me to really be serious. He’d look at me and I’d [giggle].”
When asked why they never dated, Bullock said, “There was just something about me that I guess he didn’t like. I think it’s true … I think we’re probably friends for that long because we didn’t…”
Reeves had a professional reason for not dating his co-star
Reeves revealed during a 2019 interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that he was also crushing on Bullock when they worked on Speed.
“She obviously didn’t know I had a crush on her, either,” Reeves revealed after DeGeneres showed the clip of Bullock admitting her crush.
As for why they never got together romantically, Reeves, ever the professional, explained, “We were working!”
He added, “It was nice to go to work. She’s such a wonderful person, such a wonderful actress.”
