The satisfying finale of Avengers: Endgame brought an epic conclusion to an era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The Infinity Saga included 23 films that encompassed Phase One through Phase Three of the storyline arc involving Thanos.

During San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed highly anticipated information about films scheduled for the next two years under Phase 4 for Marvel Studios. He confirmed that Black Widow, Thor, Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Ant-Man are returning along with a slew of other films currently slated for production.

Will we see the Avengers again soon?

Oddly enough, there is no word yet on another Avengers movie. Due to the enormous success of Endgame, fans were sure that Avengers 5 would be in the mix for the upcoming Phase of the MCU movies, according to DigitalSpy. It now seems more likely that 2023 or 2024 is a more realistic date for the next saga.

The burning question is who will be part of the new team. With Iron Man and Black Widow dead and Captain America an old man, it’s unclear who will take over as leader. Fans are speculating that it may be Captain Marvel. They are also trying to determine who will be the next villain now that Thanos is gone. What does seem certain to most fans is that The Sinister Six won’t be in the running to play the part of the antagonists in the next Avengers film.

Who are The Sinister Six?

Marvel has taken the worst of the worst to create an all-star lineup of villains. First appearing in the 1960s Spider-Man comics, each character has appeared on their own in Sony Entertainment’s Spider-Man films.

The comic book version of The Sinister Six consisted of Doctor Octopus, Electro, Kraven, Mysterio, Sandman, and Vulture. Sony intended to make an independent film based on the supervillains, but the project was scrapped.

With the deep connection that all of these characters have to Spider-Man, it is unlikely they will turn up in an Avengers saga. Each villain wants to seek revenge for one reason or another against the webbed superhero. In the post-credits of Spider-Man: Far From Home, the true identity of Spider-Man was revealed, showing the face of Peter Parker.

Since the villains can only fight Parker individually and not as a group, it seems clear that they will assemble to wreak havoc on him in the next Spider-Man installment. Previous films suggest that the updated version of The Sinister Six will consist of Vulture, Shocker, Tinkerer, Scorpion, Morbius, and Venom. Kraven the Hunter may also be in the running as the main villain.

An untitled sequel to ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home

Currently in development, and scheduled to release in November 2021, Tom Holland and Zendaya will return to pick up where they left off. Fans of the MCU are curious to learn if this is where the Sinister Six show up.

According to fans on Reddit, the whole point of The Sinister Six going against Spider-Man is that he has to learn to fight and defeat them on his own without help. One fan suggested that while Spider-Man “gets involved and helps out with a lot of big ‘Avengers level’ threats, he’s usually on his own to deal with his own demons.”

Fans are anxious to see where the MCU goes with The Sinister Six. Since there has never been a movie about these characters assembled together, it will be interesting to see what they do with these characters. Reddit users think “a few lower-level guys” might have to come in and help but that it’s highly unlikely at this point that we would see The Sinister Six in the next Avengers. Loyal Spidey fans agreed that “Spider-Man villains will be in Spider-Man movies.”
