Meghan Markle has distanced herself from her family’s drama, though her sister Samantha Markle’s recent statement about the birth of baby Archie included a plea for the Duchess to mend her relationship with her father. Now Thomas Markle’s ex-wife is speaking out about why he should never be a part of Archie’s life.

Following the birth of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first child, many royal fans have wondered if Archie’s arrival would in some way heal the divide between the Duchess and her father.
Thomas Markle commented on the birth of his daughter’s child, noting in a statement to The Sun: “I’m delighted to hear that mother and child are doing well. I am proud that my new grandson is born into the British royal family and I am sure that he will grow up to serve the crown and the people of Britain with grace, dignity, and honor.”
He continued, “God bless the child and I wish him health and happiness, and my congratulations to my lovely daughter Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry, and God save the Queen.”
A source told The Sun: “Thomas only has kind words for Meghan at the moment — he is extremely happy,” adding, “Despite what has transpired over the last year, this is a very proud moment for him.”
Additionally, the insider shared: “He just wants his grandson to have a normal, happy, healthy life. He does not want to do anything to upset anybody at this time, and he is hoping that in the aftermath of the birth of his grandson, a rapprochement can be made.”
Thomas Markle’s ex-wife says he was an ‘awful father’
Thomas Markle’s ex-wife, Roslyn Markle, has broken her silence about Thomas and she has a lot to say, notably claiming that he was an “awful father” to their children.
Roslyn was Thomas’ first wife; they were married from 1964 to 1975 and he went on to marry Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, in 1979; they split in 1987.
Roslyn explained why Meghan shouldn’t allow her father to be a part of Archie’s life, telling The Mirror: “Knowing Tom as I do, Meghan would be a fool to have him in her life. While he portrays himself as a loving father, he was anything but to our two children during our marriage. It may sound cliched but a leopard does not change its spots.”
She continued: “Repeatedly he has shown to Meghan he cannot be trusted. She must know that now. I speak not out of bitterness, my life moved on many years ago, but out of concern. Archie deserves to be brought up in a happy home, not in this vengeful situation that has been created.”
She added: “Tom was an awful father. What makes him think he’d be a great grandfather to Archie?”
Roslyn claims Thomas Markle was verbally abusive
Roslyn further noted that she and Thomas were married after she was pregnant with their first child, Samantha, and while things were happy for a while, he began to show a temper. Roslyn explained: “I can still see the look in his face and how he’d clench his teeth in anger. Although he was never violent, Tom would often lose his temper.”
Later, according to Roslyn, he abandoned her and the kids, leaving them with his parents, though they eventually reunited, but she claims he cheated on her with other women. She later left Thomas.
Thomas Markle responds
Thomas Markle responded to Roslyn’s allegations, noting: “These accusations about my relationship more than 40 years ago with my first wife are not valid. None of them. If you have questions ask my children. Take note that both Samantha and Tom Jr. left their mother and came to live with me because of her numerous bad habits and abuse.”
He added: “I have up until this moment never said a bad word about Roslyn but I must defend myself.”
