Will Ferrell and Zac Efron Team up for a New Movie

Another day, another new project in Hollywood. Zac Efron, 37, and Will Ferrell, 57, are reportedly teaming up for a new movie. Get details on the comedy, ahead. Hint: It combines prison and courtroom TV.

According to a Deadline report, Ferrell is working with Amazon MGM Studios fresh off the success of You’re Cordially Invited. The movie, which stars the Elf alum and Reese Witherspoon, began streaming on Jan. 30, 2025, and is currently the No. 1 movie worldwide on Prime Video.  

Sources claimed Amazon MGM Studios is, as the outlet put it, “ramping up pre-production” on a comedy starring Ferrell and Efron. Similar to You’re Cordially Invited, some of the same team will return, specifically the reunion of Ferrell and director Nicholas Stoller, who also penned the script. 

What is the Ferrell, Efron Amazon comedy about? 

While there aren’t many details to share about the Ferrell and Efron movie—no title, premiere date, cast details, or trailer—what it’s about has been revealed. 

The new comedy is about a young convict, played by Efron, who takes a reality TV courtroom hostage shortly after his prison sentence ends. 

Why? Because he blames the “megalomaniac” judge, played by Ferrell, for a past ruling that he feels ruined his life.
