A lot will change when Queen Elizabeth II is no longer with us and more change will come with every new monarch, but how will those changes affect Prince Harry? The Duke of Sussex is currently sixth in the line of succession to the throne and likely won’t ever be king, however, things will change for him when his father and brother ascend the throne.

While we know that Prince Charles and Prince Wiliam get new titles for their future roles some royal fans have questioned if Harry will get a different title at some point when he becomes the son of and brother of a king. Read on to find out if the prince could get another regal title.

How many titles does Prince Harry currently have?

Harry was born His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales.

When he married Meghan Markle on May 19, 2018, he received a dukedom from his grandmother and is now His Royal Highness, Duke of Sussex. Harry also has a couple of other titles he goes by elsewhere in the commonwealth.

When he is in Scotland, the prince is referred to as Earl of Dumbarton and when he has engagements in Northern Ireland he is Baron Kilkeel.

What will his title be when Prince William is king?

When Prince Charles is king, there’s no question that William’s title will change. The king’s oldest son, who is currently the Duke of Cambridge, will change his dukedom title to Charles’s current Duke of Cornwall title. He will also become the next Prince of Wales. So while William will get a title change then, Harry will not.

When William is crowned king after his dad, he’ll likely use King William V. That’s short for his official lengthy title which will be “William V, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of His other Realms and Territories King, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith, with the style of ‘Majesty.’”

William’s younger brother though won’t have to change his title at that time either, meaning that Harry will have the Duke of Sussex title for the rest of his life.

Other ways Harry’s life will change when William is the monarch

Although he won’t be getting a new title, things will change in Harry’s life when Prince William takes the throne.

As the brother of the monarch, Prince Harry will travel more and have more royal engagements to attend. The Duke of Sussex and his wife will also be expected to be present at banquets and state dinners that William and Middleton host. Moreover, Harry and Markle may even have to sit in for them if they are unable to make it.

Another thing that will change is Harry’s place in the line of succession. He will continue to move up the line as will his son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, until William’s kids begin to have children of their own. Then, when that happens, his sibling’s kids will move ahead of him.
