Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Opened Up About Their Son Jaden’s Intervention: ‘He Was Wasting Away’
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith take parenting seriously. The two have worked hard to raise their two children, Willow and Jaden, as well as make sure Smith’s oldest child, Trey, has a good relationship with the family.
Smith and Pinkett noticed that something was off when their son, Jaden, changed his eating habits. The two were left with no choice but to stage an intervention when their son started to appear sickly.
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett have been open to fans about their family life
In the earlier years of Smith and Pinkett’s marriage, they did their best to portray themselves as the perfect family. The two had wed in 1997, but for a while, nobody realized that Pinkett never wanted to get married. She has since revealed that she cried on her wedding day over having to tie the knot; her unexpected pregnancy with Jaden caused her to walk down the aisle.
Smith and Pinkett have run into some marriage trouble, which they have since become open about. The two separated for a while several years ago in order to both work on themselves. In that time, Pinkett engaged in an affair (or what she dubbed an “entanglement”) with musician August Alsina. Pinkett and Smith have since gotten back together.
Smith and Pinkett had to step in when Jaden started ‘wasting away’
Raising a family in the spotlight isn’t easy, and Smith and Pinkett have certainly faced their share of challenges as parents. But the two opened up about once having to intervene in their son Jaden’s life; his busy schedule had caused him to overlook his eating habits, leading to malnutrition.
“We realized he wasn’t getting enough protein,” Pinkett revealed on her Facebook series, Red Table Talk. CNN also reported that Pinkett and Smith had to stage an intervention with their son to change his diet. “He was wasting away. He just looked drained, he was just depleted.”
Will Smith noted that Jaden’s appearance had drastically changed since he altered his diet. “He had the dark circles under his eyes, there was even a little grayness to his skin.”
Pinkett admitted the whole family has ‘had issues’ when it comes to food
Jaden revealed on Pinkett’s Facebook series that he was eating no more than two meals per day and sometimes only “one big meal.” Eventually, he became sick, and his lack of nutrients caused him to be hospitalized. Jaden has since realized that going vegan wasn’t the best choice for his body, and he’s been a vegetarian since 2018.
Pinkett also said on the Facebook series that the whole family has had problems related to food — with Jaden adding that body image is the main reason. “We all have issues with food in this family,” Pinkett said, adding that they now work with health specialists to ensure that they’re receiving the right amount of nutrients to stay healthy.
