Was William Hurt married at the time of his death? Who were his ex-wives?
William Hurt was not married at the time of his death. But he had multiple ex-wives and a number of girlfriends that garnered him attention over the years. So, who are William Hurt’s ex-wives?
According to CBS News, William first married actor Mary Beth Hurt in 1971, and their marriage lasted until 1982. During his marriage to Mary Beth, they had a long separation, and he had a relationship with ballet dancer Sandra Jennings. Jennings became pregnant with Williams’ son, and William and Mary Beth made their divorce official shortly after the news. Later on, Jennings said she qualified as William’s common-law wife and took him to court to attain some of his earnings.
“Weren’t you embarrassed by the fact that he was having a baby with someone else while you were still married?” Jennings’s lawyer, Richard Golub, asked Mary Beth during the court case, according to The New York Times.
“No, I wasn’t,” Mary Beth noted. “Our marriage was over in 1978.”
William Hurt was also married to Heidi Henderson in March 1989, but according to Heavy, their marriage was for a short period of time. Heidi Henderson was the daughter of Skitch Henderson, the bandleader of The Tonight Show. William and Heidi reportedly met while “undergoing alcohol and drug rehabilitation” at the same facility. They later divorced, but the timeframe is relatively unknown.
Who are William Hurt’s children?
In addition to William Hurt’s two ex-wives, he has four children with three women. Heavy reports he had Alex Hurt, born in 1983, with Sandra Jennings; Samuel Hurt, born in 1989, and William Hurt Jr., born in 1991, with Heidi Henderson; and Jeanne Bonnaire-Hurt, born in 1994, with Sandrine Bonnaire. Sandrine Bonnaire was a French actor whom he dated in 1994.
The Associated Press reports Sandra Jennings said she had her son, Alex, with William because she assumed their relationship was permanent. After having Alex in 1983, the two split up in 1984. Jennings also alleged William was abusive toward her, which is the reason she gave for leaving him.
