William Lipton shared why he played basketball everyday to get the role of Cameron
Before the role of Cameron went to Lipton, he had to try his best to convince casting directors that he was right for it. According to Lipton, he played basketball every day during the audition process because he thought his character was a basketball player.
“When I was auditioning, Cameron was called ‘Cal,’ and he was not a soccer player. He was a basketball player,” he told the podcast Dishing With Digest, “So I thought I would have to play basketball on the show.”
Because of this, Lipton went to a neighbor’s house and played basketball “every day for several weeks.” However, Lipton later learned that the casting directors changed Cameron’s identity for the actors auditioning so that spoilers about the show would not leak.
Lipton shared, “I was like, ‘No, I’m auditioning for Cal, and he’s a basketball player.’ And they were like, ‘Nope, it’s Cameron, and he’s a soccer player.’”
Fortunately, according to Lipton, he used to be good at soccer when he was younger. He also enjoys watching the sport.
William Lipton brought his musical abilities into his role as Cameron
As he shared in his Dishing With Digest interview, Lipton fell in love with music before he took an interest in acting. As a result, he has been able to bring his musical abilities into his role as Cameron. For example, Cameron now has a tradition of performing at the annual Nurses’ Ball.
When he is not acting, Lipton is a singer and songwriter for WJM, a group he started with two friends. They have toured with boyband PRETTYMUCH and performed with Charlie Puth.
In the future, Lipton would like to continue performing for people. He told Soap Opera Digest, “I would love for that to be my future in any form. I don’t necessarily need to be playing arenas. I would love to be producing music, I’d love to be teaching music. Anything career-wise that involves music and being passionate about the things I love, I’d be super-fortunate if I was able to do that.”
