Wimbledon Odd Couple: See Princess Beatrice and Lena Dunham Laugh Together Front Row
Princess Beatrice has been a regular attendee at Wimbledon, showcasing her love for the sport and the event’s prestigious atmosphere. She has attended the tournament multiple times over the years, often seen enjoying the matches with family and friends. Princess Beatrice’s presence at Wimbledon highlights her active participation in notable social and sporting events in the UK. It’s also fun to see the 35-year-old interact with celebrities as she crosses paths with famous faces like Lena Dunham.
On July 9, all eyes were on Princess Beatrice as she took her seat in the front row of Centre Court’s Royal Box. She and her husband of four years, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, watched Russia’s Daniil Medvedev fall to Italy’s Jannik Sinner on day nine of Wimbledon. One row behind Princess Beatrice sat comedian Michael McIntyre, actor Stephen Fry, and Girls star Lena Dunham.
Princess Beatrice wore the perfect summer outfit for the Royal Box’s “smart” dress code. Her Monique Lhuillier lace shirtdress featured a smattering of florals — fun and elegant, just like Wimbledon. Retailing for $3,295, the colorful piece features an A-line silhouette with a self-tie belted waist and point collar. Mozzi wore a chestnut-colored suit, blue shirt, and red tie.
From a row behind, Fry and Dunham happily chatted with Princess Beatrice. The Jeeves and Wooster star looked delighted to speak with the princess as he shook her hand. The grouping made for a delightful odd coupling of sorts: an often-controversial young American writer/director, a beloved English broadcaster/comedian nearly twice her age, and a princess ninth in line to the British throne.
Fry and Dunham starred in the tragicomedy film Treasure earlier this year, forging a fast friendship that was on display in the Royal Box. After the competition, Dunham took to Instagram, posting a carousel of her time at Wimbledon. She captioned the post, “Challengers 2,” with a featured photo of her and the 66-year-old comedian laughing together while standing above Centre Court.
Dunham sported new, darker locks, showing off her black fringe and chest-length haircut. The Golden Globe winner wore a tweed black and white outfit from Bottega Veneta. With sunglasses also from the Italian fashion house, she sported nail polish is various bright colors, like pink and green.
Lena Dunham will be back across the pond in late August. Edinburgh Art Festival announced that the 38-year-old will join sculpture artist Lindsey Mendick for a “Shameful Women” conversation on August 19. She clearly enjoys her time in the UK.
