Wonho Signs With Highline Entertainment to Begin the Next Stage of His K-pop Career as a Solo Artist
It’s a good day for Monsta X fans. After months of uncertainty, Wonho will begin the next stage of his K-pop career. He signed with Korean record label Highline Entertainment and will be promoted as both a solo artist and producer with the label.
Wonho will continue his career as a solo artist
Highline Entertainment is a subsidiary of Starship Entertainment, so Wonho will not be completely starting over with a new company. Wonho first left the K-pop group Monsta X in October 2019 after being accused of marijuana use. When Wonho was cleared of all charges by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency in March 2020, Starship Entertainment released a statement and promised to support Wonho’s future endeavors.
“We will continue to fully support Wonho for developing his own career in the future,” said Monsta X’s label.
Highline Entertainment has also promised “full support” to Wonho, and he will be promoted as a solo artist and producer.
“We recently signed an exclusive contract with Wonho,” said Highline Entertainment. “We will provide our full support for Wonho to newly start activities as a solo artist.”
The singer-songwriter thanked fans for their support
Ever since Wonho left Monsta X in 2019, Monbebes fought for him in an effort to clear his name. Fans trended hashtags daily and insisted that he was innocent. The fandom also started petitions and raised over $20,000 to rent a billboard spot in New York City’s Times Square.
In February 2020, Wonho sat down with Dispatch for an exclusive interview. In the interview, the singer credited Monbebes for helping him learn what it’s like to be loved.
“I can say with pride that I completely changed after meeting Monbebes. I learned what it’s like to be loved. They made me want to live every day to the fullest,” Wonho said in the interview.
After signing with Highline Entertainment, Wonho thanked fans for advocating for him. With their unwavering support, he was able to continue his career as an artist.
“I am deeply reflecting on my foolish and thoughtless actions from the past. I am very thankful to the fans who have given me this opportunity, and I will do my best to repay the support you have given me,” said Wonho.
Monsta X fans are happy for Wonho
Although Wonho will not be rejoining Monsta X, this is a victory for Monbebes. Fans’ perseverance showed Wonho would always have support, and the dedication paid off. After it was announced Wonho signed with Highline Entertainment, Monbebes trended multiple hashtags and vowed to continue supporting Wonho’s career.
“Wonho regardless of what entertainment company you’re signed under I will support you. Yes I am sad that you will be solo instead of with monsta x but I still love you all equally and will remember all the fun interactions between you all. #WONHOMECOMING #WONHO #Wonhocomebackhome,” tweeted a fan.
“wonho is coming y’all! these past few months have been horrible without any wonho content! i’m so happy he’s coming back #WONHOMECOMING,” wrote a Twitter user.
“#WONHOMECOMING #WONHOISBACK I’ve waited for this moment for so long this is so bittersweet,” tweeted one fan.
“no matter what monsta x will always be 7, and you’re always going to be part of them and part of monbebe, we love you wonho. #WonhoIsBack #WONHOMECOMING #wonhoforevermonstax,” another fan tweeted.
“This is still a win Monbebe. That amazing talent and beautiful voice will not be wasted and, we can support Monsta X with a happy heart again. #Wonho#Monsta_X#OurProducerWonho,” wrote a fan on Twitter.
