‘Wonka’: Timothée Chalamet Is Recording His Own Songs for the Movie
The musical genre often brings up the question of whether the actor is actually the person singing. The actors will sometimes sing on-set, but others have their songs recorded in the studio. The upcoming Wonka is going to expand upon Willy Wonka’s story with actor Timothée Chalamet starring in the title role. He recently discussed his involvement with the movie’s music.
‘Wonka’ is a prequel to ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’
Two movie adaptations have been made based on Roald Dahl’s 1964 children’s novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Mel Stuart’s 1971 movie titled Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory featured Gene Wilder in the lead role. The movie remains a dear part of pop culture, especially thanks to Wilder’s iconic performance. Tim Burton’s 2005 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a more direct adaptation, although Johnny Depp’s performance turned off some audiences.
Wonka currently has few official details announced regarding the plot. The movie will act as a prequel to Dahl’s novel, but Warner Bros. is treating the movie as a franchise reboot. The cast includes Chalamet, Keegan-Michael Key, Tom Davis, Simon Farnaby, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Mathew Baynton, Jim Carter, Rich Fulchner, Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins, and Olivia Colman.
Timothée Chalamet is recording songs for the movie
Collider reported on Chalamet explaining his involvement in Wonka‘s music. He expressed that he has been recording his own songs for the movie. He’s been working out of Abbey Road, which is a sound recording studio in London. This is also the area that Chalamet has been filming the movie itself.
Chalamet has already worked on large motion pictures, but working on such a legendary project has left an impact on the actor. “I felt out of my league. Like I was desecrating history!,” he said. “It’s not mining the darker emotions in life. It’s a celebration of being off-center and of being O.K. with the weirder parts of you that don’t quite fit in.”
This news confirms that Wonka will be a musical. Chalamet expressed that his music seeks to be celebratory. He recently shared the character’s look with his fans on social media. Perhaps he will also give folks a tease of what audiences can expect to hear from the movie’s music in the future.
Timothée Chalamet has high-profile movies coming up
Chalamet has already earned an Oscar nomination for his work on 2017’s Call Me by Your Name. He’s been a highly in-demand actor in several notable movies, including Lady Bird, Little Women, and Beautiful Boy. The future is especially bright for his career.
Chalamet has kept busy promoting The French Dispatch and Dune across the film festival circuit. Audiences still have his star-studded Don’t Look Up alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence to look forward to later this year.
Next, the actor is teaming up with Call Me by Your Name‘s Luca Guadagnino again for the horror drama Bones & All. He’s currently filming Wonka and will hopefully be working on Dune: Part Two in the near future.
Wonka is expected to arrive in theaters on March 17, 2023.
