Would David Castañeda Choose to Be Part of ‘The Umbrella Academy’ in Real Life?
David Castañeda portrays Diego Hargreeves in the Netflix original series The Umbrella Academy. The superhero sibling is quite talented in hand-to-hand combat, and he can throw a knife on target — defying physics as each knife avoids obstacles blatantly in the way. The character — like the rest of his superpowered siblings — struggles with some childhood trauma and internal conflicts, harboring a hero complex that he never seems able to fulfill.
Diego and the rest of his siblings are frequently up against weaponized threats, as well as the everyday apocalyptic doom; in other words, it’s not easy to be a Hargreeves. It’s not easy to deal with your own problems, while also striving to put the world first, protect humankind, and preserve history. It’s not a life many would willingly choose, but would Castañeda sign on for the life of Diego?
Aidan Gallagher and David Castañeda talk about ‘The Umbrella Academy’
Aidan Gallagher and Castañeda had a one-on-one for MTV News, discussing the show and all that their characters go through in seasons 1 and 2. Gallagher asked Castañeda, “After everything that our characters have been through, would you yourself want to be part of The Umbrella Academy?
While Castañeda initially seemed hesitant, noting the stressful life that would follow suit, he admitted a willingness to jump on board. Castañeda said:
You know, that sounds really stressful, to be honest with you. I feel like that comes with a lot of responsibility, and, you know what, f*** it. Yeah. I’m down.

Castañeda is up for the challenge, but he notes that he would only do it if Gallagher took on the challenge on as well, leading Gallagher to note what the two could bring to the family in need.
Aidan Gallagher on joining ‘The Umbrella Academy’ and working out ‘some family issues’
Gallagher noted that he too would choose to join The Umbrella Academy alongside Castañeda. He explained that, with all the knowledge they would bring to the table, they would be able to lend a hand. Gallagher noted:
I feel like, with our outside perspective, knowing all of these people’s characters in their context, I feel like we could work some family issues out.

Gallagher explains that, as people looking in, these siblings’ issues are quite transparent. And he and Castañeda may be able to offer the type of support they could use. And, maybe, just maybe, the Hargreeves siblings would benefit from their input (if they took their advice).
