‘Yellowstone’ Season 4: New Promos Confirm the Dutton Family Wants Revenge and It Is Going to Be Brutal
Yellowstone season 4 is coming this fall, and the theme is clearly “revenge.” After a massive cliffhanger in the season 3 finale left three Duttons fighting for their lives, the first promo for season 4 promised the revenge would be worth the wait.
Now, the two newest promos have made it clear that the revenge is going to be brutal — and no one is safe.
Who made it out of ‘Yellowstone’ season 3 alive?
Fans will recall that season 3 ended with a literal bang, and the lives of John (Kevin Costner), Beth (Kelly Reilly), and Kayce (Luke Grimes) Dutton in danger. In the final moments of the finale, Beth was in her office when her assistant opened a package with a bomb inside. It ended up going off with Beth just a few feet away.
At the same time, Kayce was in his office when a group of armed men stormed in and forced him to take cover behind his desk. And, patriarch John was on the side of the road helping a woman change a flat tire when an unknown person drove up and shot him.
This shocking series of events capped off a season filled with plenty of violence and death. Someone will be out for revenge in season 4. Many fans believe it will be Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) who goes on a rampage, since he considers the Duttons to be family. And, he’s always doing John’s dirty work.
Revenge will be the worth the wait in season 4
The first Yellowstone season 4 teaser came out in early July, and it gave fans hope that John Dutton survived season 3. The clip began with a montage of the first three seasons that highlighted the trauma the Dutton family has been through. Then, it shows the explosive final moments of the season 3 finale
The teaser then told fans “Revenge will be worth the wait” before showing the first images of season 4. Rip runs to John lying on the side of the road and says, “John don’t you die on me now. Not like this, you hear me!”
The new ‘Yellowstone’ teasers confirm the revenge will be brutal
Yellowstone fans are eager for season 4 because they want to know if all three Duttons survived (the growing consensus is that they did). They also want to know who’s behind the attacks. Some believe it was Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley). Others theorize it was Roarke (Josh Hollaway) and Market Equities.
One fan is certain that Malcolm Beck (Neal McDonough) was behind the attacks on the Duttons because Yellowstone “never showed him dead.” The fan doubled down on this theory after seeing one of the new season 4 promos. The short clip features a white cowboy hat floating down a river as blood starts to flow into the water. In the caption they wrote, “The calm before the storm.”
“Y’all, that’s Malcolm Beck’s hat. Think about it, it didn’t really show him dead, and led us to believe he just died there in the field. He’s the one who attacked everybody!” the fan wrote.
Which one of John Dutton’s enemies will pay?
In the second Yellowstone promo, fans can see a pack of horses stampeding across a picturesque field in Montana. The tense music builds as the horses pass by. The sound of galloping hooves can still be heard after they run off the screen. And it’s soon revealed that one animal is lagging behind.
As the final horse races into the frame, there is no rider. However, there is the sound of someone struggling. Then, we see that the horse is dragging someone who is tied with a long piece of rope. They are bouncing along the ground before the final shot of the promo shows a lonely cowboy hat in the dirt. Finally, the teaser promises, “Every. Body. Pays.”
‘Yellowstone’ fans have more season 4 theories
Fans were definitely buzzing with excitement after seeing the clip. One shared their hope that the person being dragged by the horse would end up being Jamie.
A second fan wasn’t convinced that Jamie was responsible for the attacks on his family. They wrote, “Jamie’s been pushed too far but does he have the guts to try and kill his family? I don’t think so. I’m thinking it’s Rourke or someone else that NOBODY is expecting.”
But do the new promos really have anything to do with what happened in the season 3 finale? Maybe they are just short teasers to share the season’s revenge theme and they aren’t directly connected at all?
Fans will find out when season 4 of Yellowstone premieres Sunday, November 7 on the Paramount Network.
