The ‘Yellowstone’ Universe Is Adding 1 of the Stars of ‘Avengers: Endgame’

Taylor Sheridan has already announced that he is developing the ‘Yellowstone’ spinoffs ‘Y:1883’ and ‘6666,’ now he is stepping out of life on the ranch with ‘Mayor of Kingstown.’ The Michigan-based will take a look into the brutal prison system and star a member of the Avengers.

Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is expanding the Yellowstone-verse in a big way. After his original series dominated the cable ratings during season 3, ViacomCBS has handed him the keys to their kingdom.

Sheridan will be adding three new series to the Yellowstone universe. One of which features a star of Avengers: Endgame.

The ‘Yellowstone’ creator inked a nine-figure deal

Thanks to the success of Yellowstone, Sheridan has inked a nine-figure deal with ViacomCBS to produce a ton of new content. According to Pop Culture, the Texas native made this deal three years into his active contract, and extended it for five more years.

“We couldn’t be more excited to build upon our partnership with him, expand the Yellowstone universe and showcase Taylor’s boundless talent across all of our brands and platforms,” MTV Entertainment president Chris McCarthy said in a statement.

Two of Sheridan’s new series will be westerns with close ties to Yellowstone — a prequel titled Y: 1883 and a Texas-based spinoff titled 6666.

He will also be the executive producer of a series titled Mayor of Kingstown. It will tell the story of the McLusky family, who are power brokers in Kingstown, Michigan. Also on board is filmmaker Antoine Fuqua, who said he immediately wanted to be part of the series when Sheridan told him about it.

“The series offers a comprehensive look into the brutal prison system where socio political issues run rampant,” Fuqua said in a statement. “Prisons are a forgotten world to most of the population and yet represent a microcosm of society as a whole.”

‘Mayor of Kingstown’ will star Jeremy Renner

Mayor of Kingstown was originally in development at Paramount Network. They gave the prison drama a direct to series order in January 2020. But in the wake of Sheridan’s new deal – and the CBS All Access rebrand into Paramount+ — Mayor of Kingstown will now debut on the new and improved streaming service.

During the February 2021 Paramount+ investor day presentation, it was revealed that Mayor of Kingstown would star one of the biggest names in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — Jeremy Renner.

The two-time Oscar nominee says he is “excited to dig into the complex and rough-around-the edges character of Mike McLusky.”

“In a world otherwise forgotten in society, Mike serves as a flawed system of checks and balances,” Renner said in a statement given to The Hollywood Reporter. “Taylor has brought to life a layered and poignant universe that is not only incredibly intriguing but also more relevant than ever.”

This won’t be the first time that Renner has worked with Sheridan. Back in 2017, the Avengers: Endgame alum starred in the crime thriller Wind River – a film Sheridan wrote and directed – with fellow MCU star Elizabeth Olsen.

Jeremy Renner will be part of the MCU and the ‘Yellowstone’ universe at the same time

Just because Renner has signed on to star in The Mayor of Kingstown, it doesn’t mean he’s done with the MCU. Currently, Renner is in Atlanta filming the Disney+ series Hawkeye with co-star Hailee Steinfeld.

In late February, cameras spotted the 50-year-old on set as he was joking around with crew members. At the same time, Steinfeld was practicing shooting her bow and arrow. Steinfeld will be starring as Young Avenger Kate Bishop, who takes over as Hawkeye from the original Avenger, Clint Barton.

According to Just Jared, numerous photos have emerged from the set of Hawkeye over the past few months. In December, when they were filming in New York City, the first images appeared of the series’ villain. Aleks Paunovic (Van Helsing) was spotted in costume as a member of the Tracksuit Mafia.

Hawkeye will premiere on Disney+ in the fall of 2021. A release date for The Mayor of Kingstown has not yet been revealed.
