Did Love Quinn really die in You? That’s been one of the biggest questions viewers are asking after watching the third season, which premiered on Netflix on Oct. 15. Love was poisoned by Joe Goldberg in the You Season 3 finale before he set the house ablaze. However, some are wondering if she managed to make it out alive since her body wasn’t shown in the fire.

So what is it? Is Love Quinn alive or not? You creator and showrunner Sera Gamble has finally set the record straight.

What happened to Love in ‘You’

By the end of You Season 3, it was more than clear that Joe and Love’s marriage was not going to work. Both of them had cheated and barely had a connection to one another anymore. Still, Love couldn’t let Joe go. She decided to poison him and was planning on killing him for trying to leave her for Marienne. But just as she was about to do it, Joe injected her with the same poison she’d slipped on him.

As Love was lifeless on the floor, Joe sent out an email to everyone in their community from her account framing her for the murders that had occurred there. He then faked his death by cutting off his toes and setting the house on fire, before fleeing to Paris to search for Marienne, who left California after discovering the truth about him.

Did Love Quinn die in ‘You?’

Of course, viewers are skeptical about Love’s fate given the many twists and turns that have happened on the show already. But that’s not the case here.

After the season was released on Netflix, Newsweek published an interview with Gamble, where she confirmed Love’s death in You. She shared: “She is lying there [dead]. I’m not trying to be ‘was there a parachute under that seat in the airplane?’ She is [dead].”

“We’ve done that before with Candace but you know, there were questions you could ask about that,” Gamble continued. “I feel like you literally watch every second of her [Love] dying, right on the screen. I love that people will always have questions and I think that that’s really satisfying to me as somebody who’s working with something and trying to surprise people.”

Victoria Pedretti, who played Love, also commented to Newsweek about Love’s death, explaining it was something she knew would happen since she first agreed to the show. She also said she would love to return to the role either alive or dead next season. “Hell yeah,” said Pedretti. “I love my job and I love the people that I’ve met and had the pleasure of working with through this. I wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to come back.”

What to expect in season 4

It’s unclear whether Pedretti will actually appear in You Season 4, which was confirmed by Netflix in October. Now that her character is out of the picture, Joe is focusing on Marienne. But Gamble warned that might not be a situation where he’ll find happiness either.

“Real life doesn’t work the way that white-house-picket-fence fantasy of romantic and familial love — that’s just not the truth,” she told TVGuide. “That’s a mistake he makes over, and over, and over again and we haven’t gotten tired of it yet. There’s a lot of iterations of it to explore.”
