‘The Young and the Restless’: Fans Want Devon and Elena to Last This Time
In March 2019 on The Young and The Restless, Elena Dawson, portrayed by Brytni Sarpy, moved to Genoa City to take care of her uncle, Jett Slade (Gilbert Glenn Brown), who was suffering from a lesion on his vocal cord. Although a doctor, she had not finished her residency. Jett’s daughter, Ana Hamilton (Loren Lott), was paying for his medical care. She was living with her half-brother, Devon Hamilton, a billionaire widower. Ana and Devon have the same mother, Yolanda Hamilton (Debbi Morgan).
Elena met Devon, played by Bryton James, at a time when he could use a new friend. Their relationship didn’t constitute true love at the onset. But the two grew on each other. Since, their relationship, like most soap opera romances, has been on-again, off-again ever since. Fans would like to see that changed to a more permanent “on!”
The Elena-Devon rocky start
Devon had lost his wife and their unborn child in an accident in 2018. He is still grieving when Elena enters the picture. They first met when she slams a door in his face. She didn’t know who he was when he came to the motel room, she and her uncle were living in. Eventually, Devon asks Jett and Elena to move into his penthouse with the reasoning that Ana could live with her dad, according to Soaps in Depth. Elena begrudgingly agrees, but she doesn’t want a handout.
Their relationship becomes more strained when Devon decides to pay off Elena’s student loans without telling her. But he is also beginning to grow on her. Jett moves on with his recovery and Elena moves out. While still reeling from the loss of his wife and child, Devon suffers another blow when his father passes away. Elena is there for him to lean on and moves in with him. Devon is suffering from panic attacks, which Elena helps him through, and he finally recovers, somewhat, from his losses. Elena gets a residency position at Genoa City Memorial Hospital.

Enter, Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan), an attorney who, as it turns out, is a formerly unknown twin to Devon’s dead wife. He begins spending time with Amanda and telling her about her late sister. Meanwhile, Elena has become friends with Dr. Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic), a surgeon who happens to be Devon’s cousin. The two open a clinic together. He starts dating Amanda despite having feelings for Elena.
Elena confides her problems with Nate, and they end in bed together. Whoopsie! Through her guilt, she admits her transgression to Devon who stomps out to assault Nate and injuring his hand. Not surprisingly Devon and Elena break up, and he kicks her out. Nate’s hand heals. Elena starts to see Nate and thinks she can make a relationship with him workout. Nah. Whoopsie again! This time, she gets into an emotional discussion with Devon and sleeps with him. Honestly?
Just recently, Elena has admitted to herself that while trying to make it work with Nate, she is in love with Devon, according to Soaps in Depth. In a heart-to-heart discussion with Devon, she admits that “it is probably too late” for them. He interrupts, “The problem isn’t that we … don’t share the same feelings. It’s that we do.” Meanwhile, she is breaking Nate’s heart and Devon must consider his new relationship with Amanda. Yes, that Amanda. His dead wife’s twin.
