Z100 Jingle Ball New York City: Here Are the Top 5 Best Moments
Some of the best-known artists brought holiday spirit to Madison Square Garden in New York City in conjunction with the Z100 iHeartRadio Jingle Ball. Here are some memorable moments from artists like the Jonas Brothers, Ed Sheeran, and Lil Nas X.
Jimmy Fallon’s surprise cameo at the Z100 Jingle Ball
Most New Yorkers know this singer/comedian as the talk show host behind The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Jimmy Fallon is also a massive fan of music, recently releasing his holiday song “It Was A…(Masked Christmas)” with Megan Thee Stallion and Ariana Grande.
He even showed a preview of this song to the Jingle Ball crowd. However, Fallon wasn’t the only celebrity who appeared on the Jingle Ball stage. Laverne Cox announced the Jonas Brothers, while Chloe of Chloe x Halle announced her friend Lil Nas X.
Lil Nas X dancing to ‘Old Town Road’
As one of the final performers of the night, Lil Nas X took to the stage with his silver outfit and dancers, some of whom did flips and tweaked during songs like “That’s What I Want.” When Lil Nas X did her live rendition of Old Town Road, though, he was sure to include some country dance moves and a cowboy hat.
Ryan Met from AJR explaining how they made ‘Bang’
In between performing their hit songs, Ryan Met decided to give the audience a crash course in producing. He pinpointed the song “Bang,” which he said he and brother Jack Met struggled to write.
“All of a sudden, we heard a knock at the door,” Ryan said. “We didn’t really care who was at the door; no, we cared about the sound of that knock.”
After pitching that same knock up and down and adding other elements, the song was almost finished. Even though they had the melody and beat, the artists felt this song was missing something.
Then, they heard something on the subway — the man saying, “please stand clear of the closing doors.” Yes, the iconic voice of the New York City subway system is the same person saying “here we go” on AJR’s hit song. (AJR even explained that they grew up 10 blocks from Madison Square Garden.)
The Jonas Brothers literally ‘Burnin’ Up’ the stage
This boy band grew up “just across the river” in Bergen County. Of course, fans were excited to hear songs like “Sucker” and “Only Human” live. This group also played some of their old favorites. That included “Burnin’ Up,” complete with fire shooting up around Kevin, Joe, and Nick Jonas.
Fans holding up lights for Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’
Sheeran opened up the Z100 “Jingle Bell Ball,” stating that it was his final performance in the United States before heading home for the holidays. The artist included a live version of “Merry Christmas,” and while performing “Perfect,” fans in every corner of Madison Square Garden held up their phone lights.
