Zac Efron and Taylor Swift Were Roasted by Ellen DeGeneres for Dating Despite Claiming They Never Were a Couple
Ellen DeGeneres has fallen out of favor with some of her fans since staff from The Ellen DeGeneres Show came forward and claimed production treated them unfairly. And now, we’re looking back at some old interviews.
We can’t forget how many times both Zac Efron and Taylor Swift appeared on the talk show. And this caused rumors to run rampant regarding a possible relationship. Here’s how DeGeneres roasted them and what’s going on now.
Zac Efron has a rumored new girlfriend in 2020
Efron is getting quite a lot of attention in 2020 thanks to his Netflix series, Down to Earth. But now, it’s rumors of a new girlfriend that are coming to light.
According to Daily Mail, Efron’s been seen out and about with Australian model Vanessa Valladares. The two have been spotted since September 2020 going out for brunch as well on a ski trip together.
Dail Mail also noted that Valladares is 25 and was working as a food server prior to meeting Efron. Despite her current job, she seems to have big-time model aspirations.
The relationship with Efron seems brand new, so we’re betting the duo are just getting to know each other still. And prior to Valladares, Efron was linked to Vanessa Hudgens, as the two met through High School Musical and stayed together for four years. Then, in 2012, Efron was rumored to be dating actress and model Lily Collins. And after that, Efron had several other relationships with famous women he worked with, but they all seemed to fizzle out.

So, were Efron and Swift ever romantically entwined? According to the actress and the singer, they never had a thing. But when they appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show back in February 2012, DeGeneres was unconvinced.
“What did ya’ll do for Valetine’s Day together?” DeGeneres asked Swift and Efron when they both appeared on the talk show.
“Well, I don’t know. He had plans on Valentine’s Day,” Swift rebuked. And she then explained that she spent her special day with her other single lady friends. And Efron said he cooked dinner with “the friend” that Swift referred to in her statement — but it wasn’t her.
DeGeneres then adds that the only reason she’s “joking” about Swift and Efron having relationship potential is because she’s heard the rumors. And she then presents the two with T-shirts that reflect the hearsay. One T-shirt said “lovers,” another said, “we’re just friends,” and the most shocking said, “we only hooked up once.” The final T-shirt read, “we broke up.”
“I hope this one doesn’t shrink too much,” Efron joked about the “we only hooked up once” shirt.
“Because you’ll wear that a lot?” DeGeneres joked back.
DeGeneres brought it up again to Swift on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’
This isn’t the last time Swift heard about the Efron romance rumors. In fact, DeGeneres brought them up once again when Swift visited another time — but the jokes didn’t land quite as well.
“You were here with your boyfriend, Zac Efron, last time,” DeGeneres starts in her segment with Swift in 2013.
“We actually never dated,” Swift attempts to clarify.
“Yes you did,” DeGeneres starts. And the joke continues, with DeGeneres asking why Swift “denies it” later on in the interview. “Which song is about Zac on the new CD?” DeGeneres then adds.
“There’s nothing really about Zac on the CD because we didn’t date,” Swift notes again.
Eventually, DeGeneres introduces a game that pokes even more fun at Swift’s love life — and it ends with Swift begging DeGeneres to stop, as it’s demoralizing to only focus on her love life. While Swift seems in good spirits at the start of the interview, there’s a good chance DeGeneres went too far.
It’s all water under the bridge now, as Swift is happily with actor Joe Alwyn and Efron seems to be getting along quite well with Valladares. But if the singer and actor do ever get together, it seems DeGeneres called it first.
