Zendaya Is ‘Giddy’ Over Tom Holland’s ‘Low-key,’ Surprising Proposal
At Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards, Zendaya and Tom Holland caused a stir, even though he wasn’t in attendance. While the Challengers star often makes headlines for her outfits, all eyes were on her ring finger, which sported a large diamond. While Zendaya remained coy when asked on the red carpet, the couple confirmed their engagement soon after. The actor and singer is reportedly thrilled about her engagement.
Zendaya reportedly feels thrilled about Tom Holland’s proposal
Holland spent the holiday season with Zendaya’s family and proposed over Christmas. While Zendaya reportedly had no idea he intended to propose, she is elated with the way it happened.
“Tom figured the holidays were the best time to propose in a very low-key way,” a source told Us Weekly. “She didn’t want anything over the top.”
The couple reportedly discussed marriage often leading up to their engagement.
“Tom wanted to propose because he feels he is at the right time in his life and feels ready to settle down,” the source said. “They had many conversations over the years, but there was never any pressure. Zendaya is giddy and excited. She knew it might have been coming but never put pressure on it.”
Both their families approve of their upcoming nuptials.
“[They] think they’re perfect together,” a source said.
He said he plans to retire after having children
Holland recently took a year-long break from acting after a packed schedule of Marvel movies. He said he needed to take a step back.
“It was just something I needed to do,” he told Men’s Health. “I had been acting flat out since I was 11.”
He craves a normal life and plans to step away from acting altogether if he and Zendaya have children.
“When I have kids, you will not see me in movies anymore,” he said. “Golf and dad. And I will just disappear off the face of the earth.”
How long were Tom Holland and Zendaya together before the proposal?
Holland and Zendaya followed a tradition of Spider-Man actors who fall in love on set. Reports of their relationship began surfacing soon after the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming.
“They started seeing each other while they were filming Spider-Man,” a source told People at the time (per USA Today). “They’ve been super careful to keep it private and out of the public eye but they’ve gone on vacations with each other and try and spend as much time as possible with one another.”
The couple denied the rumors for years. In 2021, however, pictures surfaced of them kissing in a car. In the years since then, the couple hasn’t tried to hide their relationship, but they don’t discuss it publicly.
“Our relationship is something that we are incredibly protective of and we want to keep as sacred as possible,” Holland told The Hollywood Reporter. “We don’t think that we owe it to anyone, it’s our thing, and it has nothing to do with our careers.”
Zendaya agreed, noting that she wanted to keep her personal life private without having to completely hide the relationship.
