Zendaya Only Misses Eating 1 Food After Going Vegetarian
Spider-Man: Far From Home star Zendaya is known for standing up for what she believes in and fighting against injustices in the world.
Thus, it perhaps is not surprising that Zendaya is a vegetarian to make a point against animal cruelty. She currently adheres to a plant-based diet and has said that she doesn’t miss meat that much. However, there is actually one food she does crave sometimes. Read on below to find out what it is.
What made Zendaya choose to become a vegetarian?
According to an interview with People, Zendaya first had thoughts about ditching meat when she was 11 years old. She shared that when she and her father encountered a slaughterhouse on a road trip, he explained to her what it was and what went on behind the doors of such places.
“I thought it was awful,” Zendaya said, “all those animals getting packed up in there waiting to be killed. I couldn’t believe that’s how I’d been getting my meat!”
However, while she was now more aware of how animals were treated for human consumption, she did not officially become a vegetarian until she watched PETA’s 2009 documentary Glass Walls, which is known for its tagline that says “if slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be vegetarian.”
What food does Zendaya miss eating after going vegetarian?
Zendaya revealed that she initially did miss meat a lot after changing her diet, saying that she had a “crazy dream about raining hamburgers” and “giant food falling out of the sky.”
After many years of being a vegetarian, though, these days her body does not crave meat that much anymore. “I don’t like the taste of meat. It actually makes me feel weird,” Zendaya shared.
But there actually is one thing that she sometimes misses, and that is her mother’s “famous turkey burgers.”
However, she does not miss burgers from anywhere else, not even In-and-Out. When she goes to the popular fast food chain, her go-to order is a “grilled cheese with grilled onions and extra spread” as well as their animal style fries.
Which other celebrities have removed meat from their diets?
Zendaya is not the only person in Hollywood who has chosen to pursue a cruelty-free lifestyle. In fact, there are quite a few popular celebrities who have shared that they are either vegan or vegetarian.
Paul McCartney, the narrator for PETA’s Glass Wall documentary, is one of these famous faces. He has been a vegetarian for decades now and part of the reason why he chose to forgo meat is because of his concerns for the environment. He has also called for other people to try and not eat meat for at least one day a week, saying that something as simple as that could have a huge impact on the world.
Some celebrities have also chosen vegan and vegetarian diets for health benefits. For example, Mike Tyson used to eat a lot of meat when he was a professional boxer but has since become a vegan to maintain good health as he gets older.
Similarly, another vegan, Ariana Grande, has said that “eating a full plant-based, whole food diet that can expand your life length and make you an all-round happier person.”
Meanwhile, when Meghan Markle was still an actress, she shared that she tried to eat vegan on most days but gave herself “more flexibility with what I dig into on the weekends.” It’s not clear what her diet looks like these days, but many fans believe that Meghan Markle still maintains a pretty healthy lifestyle. There are even reports that she and Prince Harry might try to raise their child vegan.
