Zooey Deschanel Tells Us About Her Environmental Work
Zooey Deschanel is passionate about the environment. She does whatever she can to make the earth a better place and she’s not afraid to take a stand. The New Girl actor spoke with Showbiz Cheat Sheet about her environmental work and gave tips for how to get started with preserving nature.
What inspired Zooey Deschanel to join causes to help preserve nature
What prompted Deschanel to take an interest in the environment? She told us she wants to make sure the earth’s natural resources are preserved. “I am very passionate about preservation — preserving all of our natural resources, which we need to live and thrive and also preserving the habitats that support animals,” Deschanel tells Showbiz Cheat Sheet.
Deschanel says her children inspire her environmental work. She hopes that when they grow up, they will be able to exist in a world they can thrive in. “I have children and I want the world to be as beautiful and healthy for them in their lifetime and their children’s lifetimes as it was for me,” says Deschanel. “There are so many small things we can do to improve our environment. Planting a wildflower box is one of them! And it’s fun too.”
Zooey Deschanel’s Air Wick partnership
One way Deschanel is carrying out her quest to heal the environment is through her partnership with Air Wick. She told Showbiz Cheat Sheet about her work with the brand.
“I’ve partnered with Air Wick and WWF [World Wildlife Fund] to help spread the message that planting wildflowers and cultivating these beautiful plants is beneficial to animals and our planet,” says Deschanel. “Wildflowers are critical habitat for pollinators which are essential to our ecosystem functioning properly. In addition, they improve soil health and improve water quality.”
Zooey Deschanel’s advice for preserving the environment
Preserving the environment is easier than you might think. Deschanel says it involves just one small step.
“People can make a difference starting by planting one square foot of wildflowers in their backyard, balcony, or community garden,” suggests Deschanel. “By planting wildflowers that are native to your communities, you can help restore one of the critical components that nature needs to survive. All it takes is one square foot.”
What’s next for Zooey Deschanel
Next up for Deschanel is Celebrity Dating Game with Michael Bolton. “It’s a reboot of the old dating game show but it’s with celebrity contestants,” says Deschanel. “Michael Bolton and I are hosting it and playing matchmaker. It’s so much fun and I have loved working on it so much. I like hosting a show–it’s different than an acting job so it was a fun challenge and one I loved taking on.”
We asked Deschanel about the rest of her upcoming projects. She says she has a lot “in the works,” right now, but she can’t share details just yet. We can’t wait to see what she has planned.
