Angelina Jolie Doesn’t Regret Marrying Brad Pitt
Angelina Jolie has only rarely opened up about her split from ex-husband Brad Pitt. But despite the pair’s disastrous fallout, Jolie revealed that she’d marry Pitt all over again even if she could change the past.
Angelina Jolie would repeat all of her mistakes again
Jolie and Pitt were together for more than a decade before their shocking break-up. Although they’d been dating for a long time, their marriage only lasted for two years after they exchanged wedding vows in 2014. But sources who claim to be close to Jolie asserted that the Wanted star didn’t want to marry Pitt in the first place. However, she was reportedly coaxed into changing her mind.
“She felt that Brad pressured her,” the insider said in an interview with Us Weekly.
If the claim was true, it seems that Jolie and Pitt were right to avoid marrying each other for so long. Their divorce was far from amicable. There were a lot of lawsuits, counter lawsuits, and mudslinging being exchanged between the former couple. Additionally, Pitt’s relationship with his and Jolie’s six kids became very strained and distant. Still, in an interview with Hello! (via The Latin Times), Jolie hinted that she wouldn’t trade her experiences with Pitt for anything. She felt both the good and bad in her marriage were necessary.
“I am the product of all good and bad decisions I have ever made,” she said. “I’d repeat every single one of them, and I would still get my tattoos! I’m a big believer in no regrets because you wouldn’t be who you are without mistakes, even big ones.”
Jolie also learned new things about herself after the divorce that she was proud to discover.
“I also realize I have more fight and resilience in me than I knew,” she said.
At the same time, however, sources alleged that Jolie will most likely never repeat the same mistake by marrying again.
Brad Pitt reportedly begged Angelina Jolie to reconsider divorce
Jolie didn’t give up on her marriage easily. She even tried to salvage their relationship by working with him in By the Sea. It appears that Jolie hoped the same kind of sparks they felt when they did Mr. and Mrs. Smith would reignite while doing the 2015 feature. However, her plan might’ve backfired.
“I wanted us to do some serious work together, and I wanted to see him do that kind of work. So I thought that it could be a good way for us to communicate. And I think in some ways it was. And in some ways we learned some things. But there was a heaviness during that situation that carried on.” she said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “Things happen for different reasons. You know, why did I write that exact piece? Why did we feel the way about it we did when we made it? I’m not sure.”
When Jolie finally decided to walk away from her marriage, she reportedly held a meeting with Pitt to discuss terms.
“She sat down, talked to Brad and offered to file [for divorce] together,” a source told People. “She said, ‘This is what I’d like to do.’ She explained everything. Angelina did what she felt she needed to do.”
However, the source further asserted that Pitt asked for an alternative to divorce at the last minute.
“He was appealing to her to do this quietly – not to save the marriage but to consider the well-being of the children – and it was ignored,” the insider said. “He is just wrecked by this.”
It was also noted that Pitt offered to make some adjustments to postpone or cancel the divorce entirely. But at that point, Jolie was committed to her decision.
“He was willing to do anything, change any habit, change any lifestyle, to do what had to be done to make this work,” they said. “And by ‘make this work,’ that means doing what has to be done to make even a split one that is amicable and in the best interests of the children.”
