Beyoncé Shared the Vacation That is ‘Perfection’ for Her
Beyoncé has a reputation for being relentlessly hard-working, but she loves taking time off for a vacation. When she isn’t recording an album or preparing for a tour, Beyoncé likes to spend time relaxing. She shared the type of vacation that is her favorite.
Beyoncé shared her ideal vacation
While Beyoncé has said that it is difficult for her to sit still, she still loves a vacation. She likes to be by the water, but not on the beach.
“Secretly, I live for vacations,” she told Spin Magazine. “Not the beach so much — because of the paparazzi, but boats.”

She said that when she’s on a boat, she’s able to feel a sense of freedom not typically within her reach. Her work requires a strict schedule and regiment, which she’s able to shed on vacation.
“I love being on boats. I love the waves, the feel and the smell of the ocean. It’s like being in your own world, like being truly free,” she said. “If I want to eat at four o’clock in morning, I eat. If I want to jump in the sea and swim, I can. There is no one to tell me what to do. For me, that’s perfection.”
Beyoncé said she has a ritual on a yearly vacation
Beyoncé said she typically spends New Year’s Eve on a boat. She likes to jump from the boat into the water. The distance can be up to three stories.
“I don’t know what’s wrong with me,” she told Rolling Stone. “I looked at the picture and said, ‘That’s really dumb.’”
She explained that it’s a way for her to let go of the stress of the year and move forward unencumbered.
“I do it every year,” she said. “That’s my jump. It’s a ritual. That’s my ‘let go, start over, this is a vacation and I’m-a be free.’ I have to jump off something so I can let go of everything that happened before the last vacation and start over. It’s like bein’ baptized.”
She explained that it was difficult for her to take breaks
While Beyoncé loves her vacation time, she doesn’t take them as often as she might like.
“You know what I think the problem is?” she said. “I’m unable to sit still. I’m easily bored.”

In 2006, she even abandoned a much-needed break to crank out an album in several days.
“Okay, so this is what happened,” Beyoncé said. “I had planned to take a month off before recording the Dreamgirls soundtrack. But then, three days into my vacation, I started to have all these ideas for a solo record, and so without telling anyone — my manager, my record label — I called up [regular collaborators] Sean Garrett, Rich Harrison, and Rodney Jerkins. I set up three studios around town and banged out 20 songs. Just like that, in a matter of days.”
The result was B’Day, her second solo studio album. It won a Grammy for Best Contemporary R&B Album.
