Blake Shelton Admitted He Initially Saw Gwen Stefani as a ‘Rebound’
When Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani began dating, they were both going through divorces. Shelton’s relationship with Miranda Lambert was over, and Stefani was in the middle of ending her marriage to Gavin Rossdale. While they fell for each other, Shelton admitted they both saw the new romance as a rebound.
Blake Shelton said he and Gwen Stefani were each others’ ‘rebound’
After Shelton announced his divorce to the coaches on The Voice, Stefani confided that she was going through the same thing. They began to see each other as beams of support and, before long, their relationship turned romantic. Shelton admitted they both saw their relationship as a rebound at first.
“When I was going through my divorce and hit rock bottom, you know, just like anybody does when they go through something that devastating, it’s a miracle that I met somebody that was going through the same exact thing that I was at the exact same moment in time,” he said on Sunday Today in 2018. “And I think if Gwen and I are being honest right now talking about this, I think in the back of my mind we both kind of thought, ‘This is a rebound deal.’”
Their bond continued to deepen, though. In 2021, they married.
“We’re both coming out of a pretty low spot in our lives and we’re kind of clinging to each other to get through this,” he said. “But now here we are going on three years later, and every day that goes by it just feels like a stronger bond between the two of us. It constantly feels like it’s going to the next level.”
Blake Shelton said Gwen Stefani saved his life
As Shelton noted, it was incredibly valuable to him to have someone who understood the pain of his divorce. He felt Stefani saved his life.
“Gwen saved my life,” he told Billboard. “Who else on earth could understand going through a high-profile divorce from another musician? You can’t even imagine the similarities in our divorces.”
Stefani agreed. She said she felt a rush of gratitude when Shelton announced his divorce.
“[I felt] exposed somehow, you know?” Stefani told Harper’s Bazaar. “But it was like being handed this gift of a friend who was going through the exact same thing at the exact same time. And then it was just like everything flipped. It went from horrible to, like, hopeful and, like, ‘Wow, God, you just don’t know what’s gonna happen next.’”
She worried about jumping into a relationship too quickly, but they went public with their romance by the end of 2015.
She admitted to having a bit of insecurity in the relationship
While Stefani and Shelton both speak glowingly about their romance, she admitted that she still has felt insecure.
“I had been going through those times where you’re questioning: ‘Oh my gosh, am I just getting older? Am I cute?’” Stefani told Nylon in 2024. “In my own relationship, even though I know the truth of what’s happening today, you still create drama in your own mind about your insecurities and what might happen. I was in that phase of the relationship with Blake and getting paranoid.”
One year later, though, the couple’s relationship is still going strong.
