‘Blue Bloods’ Spinoff With Donnie Wahlberg Premieres in Fall 2025
CBS’s Blue Bloods spinoff will be here sooner than we thought. Boston Blue will premiere in fall 2026, series star Donnie Wahlberg announced Tuesday.

“So excited to carry on the tradition, to share so many surprises, to answer some unanswered questions and to welcome all of you — to #BostonBlue! The next chapter in the #BlueBloods legacy begins. I can’t wait,” Wahlberg wrote in a March 25 Instagram post. “See you CBS fall!”
Wahlberg also shared a brief promo video for the new show, which included a shot of Boston and footage of Wahlberg as Detective Danny Reagan.
Reagan will reprise his Blue Bloods role in the show, which will follow the NYPD detective as he takes a new job in Boston. Once in Boston, he is paired with detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family. CBS announced the show in February 2025, giving it a straight-to-series order. The network will reveal its full fall schedule, including days and timeslots, in May. A specific premiere date will come sometime later.
Will any other ‘Blue Bloods’ cast members appear in the new show?
So far, Wahlberg is the only announced cast member for Boston Blue. It’s not clear if any Blue Bloods characters will make the trip up I-95 to visit Danny in Beantown. But in a reply to a fan who commented that they’d like to see Danny’s brother Jamie (Will Estes) on the new show, Wahlberg, indicated he was hopeful a guest appearance could be arranged.
“He’d better come visit his big brother,” the NKOTB member wrote.
Wahlberg is a Boston native, so the show is something of a homecoming for the actor. However, TVLine reports that there are rumors that Boston Blue will actually film in Toronto.
Donnie Wahlberg said he wanted to explore Danny Reagan’s ‘next chapter’
Blue Bloods, which starred Tom Selleck and followed the lives of a NYC family who’d dedicated their careers to law enforcement, premiered in 2010. It wrapped up its 14-season run in December 2024.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly ahead of the series finale and before the spinoff was announced, Wahlberg said he’d have been thrilled for the original show to continue.
“I would have Danny Reagan walk right into the next episode of Blue Bloods and we do another 14 seasons,” he said when asked about what he imagined was ahead for his character.
Wahlberg went on to speculate that Danny needed a change of scenery.
“I would say I would have Danny Reagan walk right into his next chapter of his life, maybe in a different place doing a similar job and perhaps with someone from the current cast,” he said. “But I want him to not be too far from the family so that he could still see them and spend time with them, but maybe to see what life has in store for him now that his boys have gone off and he’s empty nesting and his wife’s gone. Maybe he can see what the future holds for him on his own. As long as he can visit the family sometimes. Does that sound like a tease for a spinoff?”
