Is ‘Bosch: Legacy’ Really Canceled? ‘Still Gas in the Tank,’ Titus Welliver Says
After more than a decade, Harry Bosch’s time on Prime Video is coming to an end. Last year, the streamer confirmed that season 3 of Bosch: Legacy would be the last for the show. But series star Titus Welliver – who has played the gruff detective since 2014 – would have been happy to continue in the role, he said in a recent interview.
Titus Welliver says getting to play Harry Bosch was ‘the greatest gift’
Bosch: Legacy is the successor series to Bosch, which ran for seven seasons from 2014 to 2021. While Welliver had no idea the show (which is based on a series of novels by Michael Connelly) would be as successful as it was, he couldn’t be more happy that it found a loyal audience.
“The greatest gift I could have received is the character of Bosch from Michael Connelly,” he said during an appearance on Today. “Our first day of shooting on the pilot, Michael asked me straight-up, ‘How long do you see yourself playing this character?’ And I answered that I’d play him as long as they’d have me. So, 10 years is quite a run. But there’s still a lot of gas in the tank for Harry and for myself.”
Welliver also gave a shout-out to Bosch fans, who have been pressuring Amazon to uncancel the show. A Change.org petition in support of a fourth season of Bosch: Legacy has close to 30,000 signatures.
“The fans and the goodwill toward the show has been really kind of amazing … there’s petitions and things like that,” the actor said. “I think there’s a kind of ownership with the fans. They feel that it’s their show and they’re gonna call the shots … I’m very touched by that.”
Welliver teasers what might have happened in ‘Bosch: Legacy’ Season 4

While Bosch: Legacy has been canceled, Welliver isn’t writing off the possibility of more stories featuring the ex-LAPD detective turned PI. He thinks the franchise could continue in some fashion.
“There’s always a distinct possibility, like they’ve done with Jack Ryan and Reacher, [for] spun off feature-length films,” Welliver told TV Insider. “So is there a possibility of life for that character? I think so.”
Welliver also said that before Amazon canceled Bosch: Legacy, the show’s team had been working on a fourth season.
“We had already been pre-planning what season 4 was going to look like, because we’d ostensibly discussed the idea that Harry, as he does in the books, returns to be a volunteer detective for the San Fernando Police Department,” he shared.
Whether fans will ever get to see that part of Harry’s story remains to be seen. But he’ll get some screentime in Ballard, Prime Video’s upcoming spinoff about LAPD cold case detective Renée Ballard. The character, played by Maggie Q, will be introduced in this season of Bosch: Legacy. Welliver will also appear in a few episodes of the new show.
Bosch: Legacy Season 3 is now streaming on Prime Video. New episodes release weekly on Thursdays.
