Yesterday, Jenelle Evans took to TikTok to inject herself into the middle of some troubling news. Evans sat down in her backyard to recount how her ex, Nathan Griffith, called her moments before he was arrested for domestic battery by strangulation. Evans’ story isn’t adding up for Teen Mom fans who watched the North Carolina native have Griffith arrested. Some critics even suspect Griffith and Evans were engaging in some form of flirtation that may have influenced the alleged crime.

Jenelle Evans shocks followers by defending Nathan Griffith

Jenelle Evans took to TikTok on April 24 to inform her followers that she was the last person Nathan Griffith spoke to before Las Vegas police officers took him into custody. In her winding storytime, Evans said she offered to take Griffith in after he called her following a fight with his 21-year-old girlfriend, Anastasia Biddle. Evans went on to claim Griffith was innocent. She insisted he was hit by his former partner first, and that his former partner was a “criminal.” Biddle took to Instagram to clear her name. She shared that while she had been arrested in Arizona for criminal speeding, she was released a few hours later. She has had no legal trouble since.

Evans’ take on Nathan Griffith and her attempt to discredit Biddle seemed strange to seasoned Teen Mom fans. After all, Evans called the police during a heated spat with Griffith when they were together back in 2015. In theory, she should know how quickly things can escalate with the veteran. She’s also been outspoken about his lack of involvement with their son and his past arrests.

Her change in perspective has caused some suspicion. Reddit users have theorized that Evans may have been texting Griffith romantically in the lead-up to his arrest. Critics note that Evans generally only defends individuals she is romantically interested in. They wonder if she would have stepped forward if she had been in a relationship with someone else at the time of Griffith’s arrest. Evans has been single since January. While theories and rumors are running wild, there is no concrete evidence to romantically link Evans and Griffith.

Could Nathan Griffith be headed to prison?

If Romance was, in fact, blooming again between Jenelle Evans and Nathan Griffith, it is likely cooling off quickly. After a recent court hearing, Nathan will likely be out of touch for some time. According to court records, prosecutors will move forward with the case, and Griffith will face a potential felony conviction. He is reportedly working with a public defender at this time. He has been ordered not to contact his victim.

According to the Las Vegas Defense Group, domestic battery by strangulation is a class C felony. It is punishable with up to five years behind bars. Griffith already has a complicated criminal history in Nevada, which includes a domestic battery by strangulation charge from 2023. At the time of the 2023 incident involving his sister, he was on probation from another violent arrest. That arrest took place early in the year in Florida. Considering his violent history, it is likely that Griffith could be facing significant jail time.
