With the release of a new album and the kickoff of a world tour, Katy Perry is hoping to make a comeback, but fans aren’t too impressed. Perry has faced a great deal of negative attention in recent months. Critics described her 2024 album as her worst yet and concertgoers are equally unimpressed by the tour. While Perry seems to have faced her fair share of backlash, some people don’t think it’s gone far enough yet. 

Katy Perry’s tour is not impressing fans

A concertgoer at one of Perry’s Mexico City shows recently posted a video of the choreography for the song “E.T.” It didn’t go over well in the comments.

“Wow!! She’s moving like a 75-year-old with glass bones!! This is sad,” wrote one Reddit user.

In the video, Perry enters into a lightsaber battle with a backup dancer. Fans thought it looked cheap and poorly choreographed.

“Why is everything Katy Perry so cringe lately? This looks like a new employees first day of acting out a lightsabre duel at a Disney park. so cheap,” wrote another person.

Some said they would be disappointed if they purchased tickets for the show and saw this performance. While Perry has received a great deal of backlash in recent months, some fans don’t think it’s been enough.

“I know she’s been getting a lot of hate lately, but I think she deserves more.”

Fans have questioned how Katy Perry could revive her career

In a more constructive Reddit thread, fans discussed how Perry might come back from this moment of backlash.

“Katys career is practically over, several controversies (most justified), a subpar album, a Space Trip that completely backfired and everyone hating her. KP7 is rumoured to be releasing late 2026, and I’m wondering how she can manage to Revive her career, if possible,” wrote one person.

Many believe Perry needs a new PR team to generate better press coverage, and possibly some collaborations with well-loved artists. One former fan didn’t think this would be enough, though. They believed Perry needed to release a good album, which they weren’t sure was possible.

“There are so many new and exciting pop girls debuting that I have zero motivation to give Katy a chance. If she releases a critically acclaimed album, I will be inclined to listen as a fan of pop music, but I’m not convinced she deserves another opportunity.”

At this time, Perry has not announced plans to release a new album.

She faced backlash after a trip to space

This April, Perry traveled to space with Jeff Bezos’ company, Blue Origin. The ten-minute journey has brought her days of backlash. Even some celebrities have jumped in to criticize the space trip.

Look at the state of the world and think about how many resources went into putting these women into space. For what? What was the marketing there?… I’m disgusted.”

Actor Olivia Munn added that she thought the trip was wasteful at a time when regular people are struggling to afford basic necessities.
