Just when the royal family thought they could relax as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle seemed to be focused on their individual projects and were done with doing things to upset the duke’s relatives, Meghan publicly shared something that ruffled feathers at the Palace.

On her Instagram Stories, Harry’s wife published a letter from Ukraine’s vice president that began, “Your Royal Highness, I would like to express my sincere thanks for everything your family is doing for Ukraine,” referring to the prince’s brief visit to the country. The problem with the letter is that it’s addressed to “Your Royal Highness,” which the couple agreed with Queen Elizabeth II that they would no longer use following their decision to step down as working royals.

While Meghan didn’t write the letter, she chose to share it even though it included the banned “HRH” for all to see knowing it would get back to the Palace, and it did. Now, insiders are revealing how King Charles and Prince William reportedly reacted after seeing her post.

King Charles’ reaction to the HRH letter Meghan posted

After stepping down in 2020, Queen Elizabeth banned Meghan and Harry from using their His/Her Royal Highness titles. So people at the Palace were not happy to see the letter addressing her as such. Again, she did not write it, but the thinking is that she was taunting her in-laws by publicly posting it.

The Daily Beast reported that a friend of King Charles’ remarked: “It’s outrageous. Every time you think they can’t make it worse, they make it worse.”

That same insider explained the purpose of the HRH deal the Sussexes made with the late queen saying: “The deal with the HRH was a way to stop them cashing in while letting them walk away with pride and dignity and trust, and now Markle is using her HRH on a website which seems to exist to sell jam.”

When it comes to the king’s reaction, the source explained it’s one of “dismay but he simply doesn’t allow himself to get angry about things like this anymore.”

And what about Prince William?

Insiders point out that the Prince of Wales is known to have a harder stance against the Sussexes than his father and this just pushes him more to want to strip them of their titles completely.

A confidante of William’s claimed: “It’s actually quite a clever way of testing the water, because there is deniability there, [Meghan] can say, ‘Well, I just wanted to publish this nice letter to raise awareness for Ukraine, and oops they got my name wrong–but oh, actually, now I think of it, I never gave the title up anyway, and maybe I will start using it again.'”

The insider continued: “It’s a step in the wrong direction, basically, away from the agreement. You’d have to be an idiot to believe that she didn’t know exactly what she was doing when she posted that message, unedited, to her stories.”
