Kyle Kuzma and Winnie Harlow got engaged in February after the NBA star whisked the fashion model away on a trip to Turks and Caicos for what she thought was a Valentine’s Day trip. How Harlow and Kuzma met
Not only does Harlow have the story about her amazing proposal, but she also has a “sweet” story about how they got together and shared that with Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast.
Harlow explained that she initially met Kuzma in passing at Fashion Week as he was leaving a party she was entering, and “He was like, ‘Yo, so where’s the afterparty?'”
Harlow said she looked up and saw this tall “kind of cute” man, so she told him he could DM her. He actually did later, but Harlow didn’t see it. Then, a year later, the NBA forward gave her a shoutout online when she signed as an ambassador with Puma, a brand he had worked with. However, he did it via his Instagram Stories and Harlow didn’t catch that either.
Although Kuzma’s Story disappeared, Harlow got a notification from him and DMed him asking what he had posted. This was during the COVID-19 and the two ended up messaging each other for a little while, which eventually led to texting and FaceTiming.

“It was just friendly conversation at first, and like good conversation then, too, which was beautiful,” she recalled. “And, it was the pandemic, so we had so much time to get to know each other. And, I feel like that was such a blessing as well.”
At the time, Kuzma was playing for the Lakers and convinced her to visit him in Los Angeles. She remembered how nervous she was when she got there and even more so when he came out to help her with her luggage and didn’t have a shirt on. She told him, “I’m already nervous. Like, please.”
