Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner not only divorced, but they might’ve ended their marriage much earlier than fans thought. Although their divorce was finalized in 2018, it appears that the pair might’ve separated as far back as 2013. However, the two have maintained a strong friendship over the years despite their marriage’s dissolution. It’s a bond that Jennifer Lopez also reportedly hoped to have with Affleck as well after their breakup.

A source allegedly claimed Jennifer Lopez held out hope that she’d reunite with Ben Affleck again

Although Garner and Affleck couldn’t make their marriage work, they almost had no choice but to co-exist because of their family. The former celebrity couple had three children they still had to take care of, so they couldn’t fully walk out of each other’s lives. However, it appears the Daredevil stars had a much less contentious relationship as parents than they did as lovers. Affleck has spoken very highly about co-parenting with his ex.

“Jen is a superhero mom. She is an amazing mother and I’m really lucky to have her as a partner to co-parent these kids with. We try our best, we put them first and that’s what we do,” he once told E! News.

Garner and Affleck have seemingly maintained their amicable friendship even amidst their own individual relationships. The Alias alum has reportedly been with her current boyfriend almost as long as she was with Affleck. Meanwhile, Affleck was in a high-profile relationship with his old flame Lopez. After rumors surfaced there there was turbulence in their marriage, it took a while for Affleck to pull the divorce trigger. But when he did, divorcing Lopez only brought him closer to Garner according to sources.

“Ben and Jen are closer than ever,” a source said in an interview with Life & Style. “They’ve developed a mutual respect and a deeper level of friendship they didn’t have before. It has some friends asking if they could be on their way to getting back together.”

But Lopez wasn’t completely over Affleck after she and the Gone Girl star went their separate ways. According to Radar Online, if she couldn’t have Affleck’s love, she was happy to settle with his friendship. As long as it was like the kind he shared with Garner. It was one of the reasons why Lopez moved to a neighborhood close to her ex-husband in California if insiders are to be believed.

“She insists it’s because she’s thinking of the kids and her priority is making sure they feel the family is still together,” a source said regarding her decision to stay close to Affleck. “But she also wants to maintain a friendship with Ben and envisions them having a relationship that’s as close as what he’s got with his first ex-wife, Jennifer Garner.”

The assumption was that Lopez hoped she and Affleck would rekindle their relationship by staying close. But it was claimed that Affleck probably didn’t see things the same way.

“It’s hard to imagine Ben’s not a little overwhelmed by her refusal to let go,” the source said.

Garner and Affleck caused a lot of stir not too long ago when they were spotted playing a game of paintball with their family. The two were spotted clinching each other during their outing, which caused rumors that they might be getting back together. But sources alleged that Lopez didn’t appreciate the PDA her ex showed with Garner.

“She’s actually devastated,” they told The Post(via Page Six). “She’s keeping it together publicly but she’s told everyone around her not to trash Ben. She doesn’t want to get down in the dirt with him.”

Instead of trashing her ex, it seems that Lopez might’ve opted to show Affleck what he was missing by wearing her revenge dress. However, it’s worth noting that another source claimed Affleck’s and Garner’s embrace had no affect on Lopez whatsoever.

“I think the two Jens are great admirers of the other, and I think they’re all co-parenting,” the source confided to People.

“There is no animosity. They are friendly,” they added. “We’re always pitting women against women. In this case, it’s just not the truth.”
