Justin Bieber Shows ‘Tension’ at Coachella When Hailey Bieber Met Tyla, Body Language Expert Says
Justin Bieber and Hailey Bieber turned heads during the second weekend of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. While the first weekend typically has celebrities and influencers attending, the famous couple attended both weekends. A body language expert noticed Justin’s mannerisms when he and Hailey stumbled upon South African singer Tyla. Here’s what the expert said about Justin looking tense while Hailey greeted the up-and-coming pop star.
Justin Bieber ‘communicates tension’ when Hailey Bieber hugs Tyla, according to a body language expert
Justin Bieber and South African sensation Tyla have come full circle in their musical journey. A resurfaced video from 2013 shows a young Tyla passionately singing Bieber’s “Fall” from his Believe album, a song that inspired her early dreams of stardom. Fast forward to 2024, and Tyla has become a Grammy-winning artist, celebrated for her chart-topping hits like “Water” and “Jump.” Now, the two artists are reportedly exploring a collaboration.
Celebrity body language expert Inbaal Honigman spoke to Casino.ca about Justin and Hailey Bieber’s visual communication at Coachella while greeting Tyla.
“When Hailey and Justin meet Tyla in the crowd at Coachella, Hailey reaches for Tyla first and gives her a gentle hug,” Honigman noted. “Both ladies reach out for each other, their hands open, showing that they’re equally excited to meet. Both have their sunglasses on as they hug, but Tyla removes hers quickly, showing a more personable approach towards Hailey, whereas Hailey keeps hers on, staying protected. When the girls are hugging, Justin’s lips are squeezed together, thinning. This communicates tension; Justin feels anxious in that moment.”
Honigman noticed how Justin leaned in to give Tyla a cheek-to-cheek kiss, a “sweet and attentive” greeting. “He’s leaning towards her, not away from her, showing that he wanted to give her the kiss,” the expert continued. “It isn’t forced, but genuine.”
“As Tyla steps back from the superstar, Justin is seen smiling in a heartfelt, genuine way,” she added. “His smile is toothy, his cheeks are rounded, and his eyes are firmly on Tyla, showing that he’s truly happy to meet her, and since she mentioned earlier that he’s her childhood crush, he’s happy to fulfil her dream.”
Tyla walked away and did a “little jig,” showing she felt “truly excited” after Justin’s cheek peck.
Tyla once admitted to having a crush on the ‘Sorry’ singer
Pop sensation Tyla had a lot of reasons to celebrate after greeting Justin and Hailey Bieber. She once admitted that Justin was her celebrity crush.
“Growing up, I had a crush on Justin Bieber,” she said on the red carpet, according to Complex Music. “I was a hectic Belieber, for real.”
Tyla has a dream of collaborating with Justin or Drake. She’s known for bringing amapiano, South Africa’s popular house-music style, into the mainstream realm of pop. Tyla would love to welcome bigger names into her world.
“When I listen to the album, I’m so proud of it,” she told Rolling Stone. “I just see our sound going so far: the culture, the words, the slang. Even just Joburg — the thought of people now singing about Joburg.”
In the same interview, she mentioned how she loved watching Justin’s documentary. “I used to be a huge Belieber — oh, my word,” she reiterated.
Justin Bieber’s body language at the Coachella afterparty looks ‘uncomfortable,’ according to a body language expert
Justin Bieber appeared to enjoy meeting with Tyla at Coachella despite the possible initial tension. However, celebrity body language expert Inbaal Honigman noted that he looked “uncomfortable” at a Coachella afterparty during the second weekend.
“Coachella afterparty footage of Justin Bieber, as he sits on a speaker alone listening to music, makes for an uncomfortable watch,” she said. “His posture shows that he feels unsafe. Even though he’s sitting above everyone else, which makes it appear as if he’s confident and visible, he is anything but. We can see his arm covering his front, which is a protective gesture. He’s curled over himself, again showing that he’s feeling protective over himself. Sitting in this ‘closed’ position, it lets us know that he’s trying to hide himself, or trying to keep something secret, from those surrounding him.”
Honigman said Justin’s facial expressions also showed “tension.”
“His facial expression, when we can see it, is similarly disquieting,” she noticed. “He smiles, but his lips and cheeks show a lot of tension. This isn’t a happy smile but a tense, forced smile, like a Joker mask. A tense smile like this hides feelings of stress and discomfort behind it.”
