Kanye ‘Ye’ West Claims Taylor Swift Incident Cost Him Super Bowl Performance, But Jay-Z Deserves the Blame
Kanye “Ye” West‘s X posts continue to cause chaos amongst his followers. The rap legend caused a stir online in 2025 with posts supporting antisemitic sentiments and Nazi ideology. He’s also called out his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, and his ex-friend, Jay-Z. Recently, he blamed Taylor Swift as part of why he’s never been asked to perform during a Super Bowl halftime show. Here’s his post and why he’s blaming the wrong superstar.
Kanye ‘Ye’ West blamed the ‘Taylor Swift movement moment’ for why he was never asked to perform in the Super Bowl
Kanye “Ye” West and Taylor Swift have notable beef dating back to 2009. West stole Swift’s thunder during Swift’s acceptance speech for Video of the Year at the MTV VMAs. “Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’m [going to] let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time!” West infamously exclaimed.
While he apologized for that incident, he later referenced Swift in his song, “Famous.” “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. Why? I made that b**** famous,” he rapped. Swift alleged that she disapproved of the lyrics. However, Kim Kardashian came to West’s defense and claimed Swift knew about the song. Kardashian released footage of West’s phone call with Swift about the song. But the phone call seemed to exclude any talk about the “b****” lyric. Swift later claimed the phone call was “edited and manipulated” to frame her.
In April 2025, West referenced Swift in a now-deleted X post regarding why he’s never had the chance to perform during a Super Bowl. “I never was allowed to do the Super Bowl because of three moments,” he wrote, according to Newsweek. “George Bush don’t care about Black people. The Taylor Swift movement moment. Wearing a MAGA hat.”
“How it feel to be the best living and blocked from the main stage because of being ahead of my time. (And I mean all of this was before I went full Nazi of course),” he continued.
Jay-Z makes the final call regarding who performs in the Super Bowl
Kanye “Ye” West might see Taylor Swift as an easy target for his Super Bowl grief. However, he might have Jay-Z to blame. Jay-Z and his Roc Nation team choose the Super Bowl performers.
“It’s a decision that Jay makes,” executive producer Jesse Collins told Variety. “Since we’ve been on board with that show, he’s made it every year, and it’s been amazing. He’s always picked right!”
Jay-Z and West have a complicated relationship. West impressed Jay-Z with his music and entered the industry on his label. While the two had a close friendship, they had multiple falling-outs through the years. Their most recent issues went viral on X. West talked poorly of Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s twins and claimed Jay-Z was never there for him when he needed him most.
“I love Jay-Z and I do feel bad,” West posted to X. “I always felt like the black sheep like I wanted family in this music s***. I’d run on stages thinking I was doing the right thing and would always be a slight hov [sic] not coming to my first wedding him putting Kendrick on the Super Bowl over me or even us never being being invited to s***, taking jabs about my red hat on Donda, I felt like both him and his wife could have helped me have more leverage with my kids ….”
Jay-Z and Beyoncé allegedly considered taking legal action against Kanye ‘Ye’ West
Jay-Z and Beyoncé were allegedly incredibly disturbed by Kanye “Ye” West’s post about their young twins. A source told Page Six that the famous couple “will absolutely not stand for it” after West “has spoken about their children in such a vulgar and offensive manner.”
“Jay-Z and Beyoncé are aware of the posts Kanye has since deleted and are discussing how they want to handle this situation, whether that be privately and/or in a legal matter,” the insider continued.
It’s unclear if Jay-Z and Beyoncé plan on pursuing legal action against West at this time. Either way, they “have no plans on publicly addressing Kanye’s X posts about their children,” the source claimed.
