The Kate Middleton Fashion Drama ‘Appalled’ Prince William and the Royal Family
All that Kate Middleton fashion drama and uproar about the future queen’s style reportedly “appalled” Prince William and other British royals. The Prince of Wales, along with others in the “Firm,” have reportedly advised the Princess of Wales to “ignore” it.
William and the royal family are ‘appalled’ by the Kate fashion drama, want her to ‘ignore critics’

Speaking to In Touch, an insider revealed how William, 42, and other royals reacted to the drama surrounding Kate’s clothes.
“There’s a huge feeling amongst not just the Royal Family but also within all the people that work for them, that Kate can do no wrong,” they said. “So of course everyone is appalled that she’s even being questioned over this.”
Kate came under fire when a report suggested details on her clothing would no longer be made public. (More on that ahead.) The future queen “is being encouraged to ignore critics.” And furthermore “continue handling her public duties in whatever way makes her comfortable.”
“There’s literally no one in the family that’s more aware of protocol. And always follows it to the letter,” the insider said. “Not only that, but this is all coming to the fore because of a desire to have more focus on the charity work she’s doing. So it speaks pretty poorly of the people that are questioning this. It’s very disheartening.”
“Kate’s got full approval to just ignore the fuss and do as she pleases going forward,” they added. “If she wants to share details on what she’s wearing it’s her prerogative, full stop.”
A report claimed the ‘focus’ would be on Kate’s work, not her fashion choices
It all started on Feb. 1, 2025, with the Sunday Times article titled “Princess of Wales: Focus on my work, not my wardrobe.” It quoted a royal source who suggested details on what Kate wore would no longer be a priority. Instead, they claimed, the spotlight would be on the 43-year-old’s work as a royal.
“There is an absolute feeling that [the public work] is not about what the princess is wearing,” the insider said. “She wants the focus to be on the really important issues, the people and the causes she is spotlighting.”
“There will always be an appreciation of what the princess is wearing from some of the public. And she gets that,” they added. “But do we need to be officially always saying what she is wearing? No. The style is there but it’s about the substance.”
Kensington Palace’s clarification on sharing Kate’s fashion details: ‘no change’

10 days later on Feb. 11, 2025, Kensington Palacee addressed the drama publicly. The palace issued a rare clarification about making potential changes to protocol surrounding Kate’s clothes. In doing so, The Times’ source was revealed to be a palace spokesperson.
“Over the last week, I have received numerous questions about a story regarding The Princess of Wales’s clothing. And how Kensington Palace shares information about her outfits,” the spokesperson said in the statement.
“To clarify, the comments that appeared in the article were from me, not the Princess of Wales,” they continued. “The comments that were reported should not be directly attributed to the Princess of Wales.”
“To be clear, there has been no change in our approach to sharing information about Her Royal Highness’s clothing,” they concluded.
