Why Kate Middleton Was MIA for One of the Royal Family’s Most Important Events
One of the most important dates on the royal family‘s calendar is Easter. Leading up to the holiday, the monarch attends a service on Maundy Thursday before the entire family goes to mass on Easter Sunday, then gathers for a celebration as big as Christmas which includes a royal lunch of roast lamb.
But this year, fans noticed that the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) was not at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, with the rest of the family for the morning service. Some then took to social media asking where she was.
Last year, the princess skipped the service as she was undergoing chemotherapy. She’s now in remission, so many began wondering about her this year.
Reason Kate and Prince William’s family wasn’t there
It wasn’t just Kate, Prince William and their three children weren’t in attendance either.
The Wales family instead stayed at their Anmer Hall home in Norfolk. A source told The Mirror that the Prince of Wales had previously informed his father, King Charles, of their plans to stay home over the holiday away from the spotlight with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
“They are choosing to spend time together as a family before the children go back to school,” the source said.
The royal no one expected to see there
Someone who was at the church that no one expected to see was Prince Andrew.
The disgraced Duke of York is no longer a working royal and many thought not seeing him out much anymore meant that King Charles has banished him from public life. However, Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, were both seen outside St. George’s with the rest of the family.
The two were heard saying “Happy Easter” when cameras were on them.
