King Charles Is In ‘Uncharted Waters’ As Camilla Parker Bowles Worries About Him
Last year, King Charles revealed that he went into the hospital for a prostate procedure. However, he later revealed that he had been diagnosed with cancer. Although Charles never revealed what type of cancer he has, he only took limited time away from royal duties before returning to his role while simultaneously being treated.
More than a year later, Charles is still undergoing treatment, but after a recent hospital visit, there are rumors that his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, is worried about him as the royal family is in “uncharted waters.”
King Charles’ diagnosis is ‘uncharted waters’ for the royal family
Though the diagnosis isn’t new, Charles’ continued treatment is something the royal family hasn’t experienced before. In late March, the king was forced to cancel some engagements due to an unexpected hospital trip resulting from side effects from his treatment.
“Clearly, we’re in uncharted waters,” Richard Eden of the Palace Confidential show said, via Express. “But if he needs to visit [the] hospital because he’s feeling a bit under the weather from treatment, which is quite understandable, people do start to worry and panic a bit.”
According to Buckingham Palace, Charles’ hospital visit was the result of “temporary side effects that necessitated a brief period of observation.”
Eden also suggested that Camilla wasn’t thrilled with how much 76-year-old Charles is doing these days. “I do get the sense that the queen is very keen to slow him down a bit … I think she’d rather, frankly, that he was, you know, relaxing in the garden and not doing any jobs at all, but that’s just not him.”
Charles was quick to get back to work last year after being diagnosed, and for the most part, his treatment has not greatly interfered with his royal duties. Still, any hospital trip might cause the people in his inner circle to ask him to take a step back.
King Charles likely won’t step down from the throne any time soon
While Prince William and Kate Middleton have been preparing to be king and queen since they were married back in 2011, the royal family likely isn’t in any rush to hand over the throne to the Wales couple. William and Kate still have three young kids who are going through school, and the two have maintained that their children are their priority.
William and Kate likely don’t have an interest in taking over the throne until their children are at least 18 years old. The couple’s youngest child, Prince Louis, is about to turn six, meaning it could be a while before William and Kate are ready and willing to assume the throne.
