Meghan Markle Appears to Have Broken Her Agreement With Queen Elizabeth and Is Now Using HRH Title, But the Duchess Denies That
Meghan Markle caused a bit of a firestorm recently when she shared a letter via her Instagram Stories in which she is being addressed as “Her Royal Highness” by the vice president of Ukraine. Some called for her royal title to be stripped then and believed it was only a matter of time before the former Suits star would start using HRH herself. Well, that time has come.
Despite Meghan and Prince Harry‘s agreement with the late Queen Elizabeth II not to use those HRH titles after they stepped down as working royals, Meghan sent a gift basket and card to IT Cosmetics co-founder Jamie Kern Lima that read: “With Compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex.”
This news emerged after Meghan appeared on The Jamie Kern Lima Show on April 28, and the host shared a photo during the podcast of Meghan’s gift to her.
However, even with the visual evidence, representatives for the duchess denied that she uses that title after relinquishing royal duties, insisting: “A spokesman for the Sussexes said they do not use HRH titles.”
During the “Sandringham Summit,” which was a meeting held regarding Prince Harry and Meghan’s exit, Queen Elizabeth decided that the couple could retain the HRH titles. But per their agreement, they were not permitted to use them for their commercial gain or to promote any of their projects after leaving the U.K.
So far, Buckingham Palace has not commented on the matter.
