Meghan Markle Is ‘Masking’ Something When She Talks About Prince Harry and Lacks ‘Genuine Emotion,’ Expert Explains
Meghan Markle sat down for a candid interview with her pal, Jamie Kern Lima, for the IT cosmetics co-founder’s brand new podcast.
The Duchess of Sussex’s comments about her life with Prince Harry and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, came just days after she gushed about her husband and family while speaking at the TIME100 Summit in New York City.
However, a body language expert noticed that things were a bit different when Meghan talked about Harry on The Jamie Kern Lima Show and is pointing out what he saw that shows Meghan is trying to “mask” something when discussing her relationship with the duke.
Meghan spoke about her marriage to Prince Harry during the podcast
On Kern Lima’s podcast Meghan, who showed off a very laid-back look going makeup-free and dressed in sweats, said of Prince Harry: “That man loves me so much.” She then smiled and told the host: “He’s also a fox. If you haven’t noticed my husband’s very, very handsome. But his heart is even more beautiful.”
As she continued to open up about the prince though, her body language began to change.
Darren Stanton is a body language and behavioral expert with a degree in psychology. He previously worked as a police officer and used his expertise to uncover the truth when interviewing hundreds of suspects. He later moved into media and TV as a consultant and has been dubbed the “Human Lie Detector.” He analyzed the duchess’s demeanor as she talked more about Harry during the podcast.
Speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, Stanton told Showbiz Cheat Sheet: “There was a nice moment when Meghan spoke about her current relationship with Harry. She comes across as open when talking about personal matters, and seems happy to talk about her relationship with Harry and the interactions between them … at that point in the interview.”
The duchess lacked ‘genuine emotion’ when talking more about her husband
However, Stanton noticed something “shifted” in Suits alum when she was asked about the earlier days of her relationship with the duke and appeared to be “masking her emotions.”
According to the expert, “When speaking about her early relationship with Harry, it seems like Meghan is masking some of her emotions. She is lacking the key signs of genuine emotion, such as crow’s feet at the corners of her eyes and full facial engagement. This could be due to Meghan feeling slightly uncomfortable about the line of questioning, making her expressions more performative than heartfelt.”
Stanton also observed, “When she refers to being ‘in the trenches,’ there is a clear increase in her blink rate. A sudden change in blink rate is often a subtle but telling indicator of an emotional shift. In this case, it likely reflects a moment of self-awareness. While it was clearly just a throwaway comment, she’s aware of how her words could be perceived and interpreted, which causes her blink rate to increase.”
Showbiz Cheat Sheet acknowledges that conditions and cultures can impact body language and is sensitive to all backgrounds.
