Meri Brown Says Her Relationship With Kody Brown Is ‘Non-Existent’ Ahead of ‘Sister Wives’ Season 19 Return
Meri Brown has not reconciled with Kody Brown, she confirmed in an interview on Wednesday ahead of the premiere of the second half of Sister Wives Season 19.
The TLC star was a guest on the April 16 episode of The Tamron Hall Show. During their chat, she opened up about the status of her relationship with Kody and whether it was harder to go through a legal or spiritual divorce.
Meri Brown says she’s ‘dealing with a lot of grief’ over the way her divorce played out
“It’s pretty nonexistent,” Meri said when Hall – who hosted first few Sister Wives reunion specials – asked about her relationship with Kody.
“To be honest with you, I’m dealing with a lot of grief,” Meri continued. “Not over the marriage. I’m done with that. I’m out of that. But I’m actually dealing with grief over the fact that our divorce couldn’t even be what I was hoping our divorce could be.”
As seen in the first part of Sister Wives Season 19, Meri recently sought a spiritual divorce or “release” from Kody, her husband more more than three decades. (The two had legally divorced years earlier so that he could marry his fourth wife, Robyn Brown.) Her hope was that the second split would not turn ugly, but things didn’t turn out that way, she told Hall.
“That we could be kind to each other,” she said of what she wanted from the end of her marriage.
The ‘Sister Wives’ star says she has to ‘protect’ herself from Kody’s unkindness

Meri said that Kody’s unkind behavior had forced her to set firm boundaries with her ex.
“Because of that, I protect my space. Like, my space, my energy, and what surrounds me is very important to me. And so I protect it. And I won’t have somebody in there who messes with it,” she said.
Despite her contentious relationship with Kody, Meri said that the process of getting a spiritual divorce through their church was less painful than going through her legal divorce in 2014.
“I was not in the place at the time to terminate it that way,” she said of her legal divorce, which many Sister Wives fans point to as a turning point in the Brown family dynamic that paved the way for Robyn to eventually become Kody’s only wife. “But by the time I ended it spiritually I was like, ‘I’m done. I’m out.’”
With her marriage behind her, Meri is looking forward to the possibility of new romance. She’s dating, she told Hall, though finding eligible men in her small Utah town is difficult and she has yet to meet her “forever person.” But she’s not giving up hope.
“I’m definitely in the game,” she said, with a smile.
