United States President Donald Trump stoked the fires of an almost decade-long clash with Meghan Markle, addressing rumors of Prince Harry’s deportation while mocking the Duke of Sussex’s marriage in a new interview. From calling her “nasty” to “terrible” here’s the details of Trump’s nine-year feud with Meghan.

Donald Trump had some not-so-nice things to say about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

Reportedly, the Heritage Foundation has urged U.S. authorities to release the duke’s immigration records, to show whether past drug use discussed by Harry in his 2023 memoir Spare was disclosed on his visa application.

The New York Post asked Donald Trump about his plans for deporting Prince Harry. “I don’t want to do that. I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible.”

The president’s commentary came three years after Trump claimed Harry was “whipped” by Meghan. He criticized the duchess, per the Post, “I think poor Harry is being led around by the nose.”

Meghan Markle has been a Donald Trump target since 2016

This isn’t the first time Meghan Markle has gotten under Donald Trump’s skin. She’s gone on record, disagreeing with some of the statements he’s made as president of the United States.

Subsequently, Meghan called Trump “misogynistic” and “divisive” during a 2016 interview on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore. Meghan added she would consider living in Canada, where she was filming Suits at the time, if Trump became President.

His response? “I didn’t know that. What can I say? I didn’t know that she was nasty,” he responded in an interview with The Sun.

During Trump’s 2016 presidential run, Meghan was not yet married to Prince Harry. However, they would begin dating in the fall of that same year and tie the knot in 2018.

In a tweet posted on June 2, 2019, Donald Trump walked back on his comments about Meghan Markle. He claimed his statement was misinterpreted despite an audio recording of the interview posted to The Sun‘s website.

Thus, he tweeted, “I never called Meghan Markle ‘nasty.’ Made up by the Fake News Media, and they got caught cold! Will CNN, New York Times, and others apologize? Doubt it!”

Trump also spoke against Meghan during a White House press conference ahead of the 2020 presidential election. He responded to a journalist who addressed Prince Harry and Meghan’s support of Joe Biden.

“I’m not a fan of hers,” he began. The president continued, “I would say this. and she’s probably heard that. But I wish a lot of luck to Harry. He’s gonna need it.”

In contrast, Trump had complimentary words for Prince William. He met the United Kingdom’s future king during the reopening ceremony of Notre-Dame Cathedral in December 2024. Following their meeting, Trump said of William, “I think William is a great young man.”
