Prince Harry Is Taking Heat for ‘Bullying and Harassment’ After He Quit His Own Charity
Prince Harry doesn’t often find himself on the worse end of harassment allegations. But that all changed after Prince Harry stepped down in March 2025 from the charity he co-founded years earlier alongside Prince Seeiso of Lesotho. Sentebale, an organization designed to bring awareness to the impact of HIV/AIDS in Botswana and Lesotho, was started by the princes back in 2006.
Now, after Harry stepped down, the chair of the organization, Sophia Chandauka, is accusing the prince of harassment, a toxic work environment, and bullying.
Prince Harry has found himself in the thick of controversy surrounding Sentebale
For years, Harry worked to bring awareness to an issue he has always been passionate about. However, lately, a major breakdown has occurred between the board of trustees and the charity’s chair, causing multiple people to step away.
In an interview with Sky News, chair Sophie Chendauka made substantial claims against Harry’s character, accusing the prince of “harassment and bullying at scale.” Chandauka claimed that the Sussexes’ PR team at on point asked the charity to release a positive statement about Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, after the charity’s polo event “went badly.” Chandauka refused. After tensions became higher and higher, Harry and Seeiso both resigned on March 25 with a statement.
“At some point on Tuesday [March 25], Prince Harry authorized the release of a damaging piece of news to the outside world without informing me or my country directors or my executive director,” Chandauka said, according to NBC. “And can you imagine what that attack has done for me, on me, and the 540 individuals in the Sentebale organizations and their family? That is an example of bullying and harassment at scale.”
Harry and Seeiso, who both stepped down in a joint statement, said that the chair [Chandauka] was also asked to step down. The princes added that their relationship with Chandauka “broke down beyond repair, creating an untenable situation.”
Sophia Chandauka praised Prince Harry at the same time
At the same time as accusing Harry of harassment, Chandauka also said that she and Harry had a solid relationship. She mostly blames the charity’s board for tanking the relationships, but that her relationship with Harry was “fantastic, actually.”
Harry has continued focusing on his two charities — Sentebale and The Invictus Games Foundation — since relocating to California with Meghan back in 2020. However, now that he has stepped down, it remains unclear if he will pivot to focus entirely on his Invictus Games venture, or find his hands in a new kind of philanthropic work.
