Rebecca Gayheart and Eric Dane are in a good place as he navigates his ALS diagnosis

In an interview with E! News one day before Dane revealed that he had amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Gayheart said that she and her husband were good friends despite their rocky marriage. 

“We are best of friends,” she said, adding that she and Dane are “really close” and “great coparents.”

The Grey’s Anatomy star and the Euphoria actor wed in 2004 and share two children, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13. Gayheart filed for divorce in 2018, but the split was never finalized. In early March, she asked the court to dismiss the divorce petition. 

“We really figured out the formula to staying a family and I think our kids are benefiting greatly from it and we are as well,” Gayheart continued. She added that she did not consider her marriage a failure. 

“It was a huge success. We were married for, I mean, we are still married, but together for 15 years and we had two beautiful kids so I think that’s a successful relationship, and that’s how we look at it,” she said. 

Eric Dane is ‘grateful’ for family’s support after ALS diagnosis 

In an interview with People published on April 10, Dane shared that he’d been diagnosed with ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease.

​​”I have been diagnosed with ALS,” he said. “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”

Dane added: “I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”

 Also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, ALS typically begins with muscle weakness that gets worse over time. 

“Eventually ALS affects control of the muscles needed to move, speak, eat and breathe,” according to the Mayo Clinic. “There is no cure for this fatal disease.”
